Lost Stars #5

When the Stars Rise

Rate this book
Six weeks. Thirty-five cities. One more chance to get it right.

Noah McCallister.
Extreme athlete. Habitual heartbreaker. The only boy I’ve ever loved.

We’re a tragedy. A beautiful melody with dissonant chords. A soaring ballad of heartache, enduring love, and lost youth.

Once upon a time, he was my everything. My once in a lifetime. My past and my future. The white knight who balanced my entire world on the palm of his hand.
Until I lost him.

Now I’m out there reaching for the stars while he’s off chasing his next adrenaline rush.
Cliff diving, rappelling down waterfalls, skydiving… you name it he’s done it.
I’m convinced there’s nothing Noah can’t do. Except for one. He can’t quit.

As his appetite for risk grows more insatiable, I begin to worry that he’s on a quest to cheat death.
Losing him is inconceivable. So I make him an offer he can’t refuse—join me for the final leg of my world tour as the official videographer.

He only agrees because he thinks I need him. But he’s wrong.
Six years ago, Noah saved my life… and now it’s my turn to save him.

**ARC READ**

⭐⭐⭐⭐
4 Stars

It's always bittersweet saying goodbye to a series, but with Noah and Hayley, it was perfect. Having read and devoured this series, I've witnessed young love through their eyes and now that they're adults and making their own choices...their timing is off and never perfect.

If you love a friend-to-lovers and right-person-wrong-time romance, you will enjoy this book. Hayley is beautiful with her dark hair, ballerina physic and angelic voice - music is her jam and first love. Noah has grown into a hot AF adrenaline junkie - always catching his next high and living in the moment. He has always been her hero, even if he never saw it that way. They are like peanut butter and jelly, they are each other's 2 am call person and there isn't anything they won't do for each other. Sadly their baggage is heavy and painful and the timing is never right. They are each other's weaknesses, and watching them save each other in the end was beautiful.

Ends is a gorgeous HEA and yes for all you ladies out there, you will love Jude's name when he makes a teeny appearance. Dual POV, beautifully written and although I sadly didn't feel a strong connection, I'm so glad I read it.

Enjoy!

I have been on Emery’s ARC team since When the Stars Fall so to say I was excited about this next instalment was an understatement! This book was nothing and everything I expected it to be - At the same time. The usual emotional character connection you get with Emery's writing, with a side of NEW ADULT ANGST and STEAM!

- Second Chance
- Childhood Friends to Lovers
- Rockstar Romance
- Step-siblings
- New Adult

Hayley & Noah are "that" couple. Childhood friends since they were younger, developing into high school lovers as they grew. Until that fateful night where Hayley loses it all.
Noah is there to pick up the pieces of it all, but when Hayley chooses to run away from it all to live with her rockstar biological father - They lose everything they had.

Jump forward to Hayley is now a famous rockstar. She is a global phenomenal travelling around the world with her music, while Noah has chosen the other lifestyle of being a famous youtuber while completing extreme sports. This is what leads to Hayley & Noah connecting & disconnecting often - With Noah risking his life one too many times & Hayley losing too many people already in her life. When Noah is invited to be the videographer for her latest tour, Hayley hopes it is one last effort to stop Noah from acting irrational. While Noah hopes it is the last time he can steal Hayley's heart.

But while past secrets come out, with some secrets causing them to be apart while also bringing them back together, we get the angst of their relationship. But at the end of the day, they are each other's forever. But will they fight enough for that happy ever after?

We do get to see a crossover between Emery's next gen of both her series (Lost Stars & Love & Chaos series) which was really cool & made me want to go back and read it all again! I am excited to see what else Emery writes in this world because from the angst & addictiveness of her writing in this one - I can only tell it’s going to be spectacular!

5/5 stars with 4/5 steam.

Emery Rose just knows how to tear you apart and put you back together again. I shouldn’t be surprised, but I was reeling at the end of her latest release.

📕 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: When the Stars Rise by Emery Rose

📙 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀: The Lost Stars character series, Book 5.

📗 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘀: ARC read on Kindle. 🆓️ on KU

📘 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗿𝗲: Contemporary Romance

📔 𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝘀: Friends-to-lovers, second (and third...) chance, rock star, extreme sports

📖 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀: Noah and Haley have known each other their whole lives. But an accident that kills Haley’s parents starts a tumultuous period for the couple, as they try to reconcile their trauma with the love they have for each other. Now Noah is going on tour with Haley, attempting to give their relationship one last chance before they call it quits for good.

🌟 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: If you’re one of those readers who loves those emotional reads, chances are, you’re already reading Emery Rose. If you’re not, consider this my endorsement.

Haley and Noah’s story had ALL of the angst. It was hard not to love it, when the pair had to work so hard to get their happy ending. Emery Rose wrote two great characters - Noah with his addiction to adrenaline and Haley with her overwhelming trauma. And through the entire dual POV, their love showed through.

Don’t go into this one lightly, though. It’s all full of emotion. I cried a few times, especially as they worked through their last 20%. But if you’ve got a Costco sized box of tissues, you’ll be fine.

I definitely think this shouldn’t be read as a standalone.. you should at least read the first two books in this series, something I didn’t do. I wasn’t lost but there are a lot of important side characters. This was a second generation romance so even though I’m slightly spoiled now, I am still interested in starting back at the beginning.

Anyway.. this was fun romance and both Noah and Hayley were so endearing, you couldn’t help but root for their happily ever after. The way Noah loved her.. ugh so good. The cast of characters really felt like one giant family. I just wish the story was told in a more linear fashion and that it had more showing than telling. I’m for sure adding the rest of the series to my tbr!

All my stars. I have basically been on pins and needles waiting for sweet Noah's story and I was giddy to see that it was also Hayley's story too. The way that these two have been through IT together..and the way that they deserved a happy ending...but man...they had to FIGHT for it.

I loved so many things about this book. I loved getting to see so many of my favorite characters from earlier in the series. I loved seeing how the love they shared only grew. I loved the struggles that Noah and Hayley had to go through...because it showed that love isn't always easy but it's worth it for the right person.

I laughed and cried...and gasped....and my stomach dropped quite a few times but one thing remained the same: I absolutely am OBSESSED with Emery's writing and the worlds that she builds. The only thing I didn't like was that this series is over.

If you haven't read Emery yet, you must immediately stop what you're doing and pick her up. I highly recommend starting with book 1 in this series so you can fall in love with everyone. Thank you Emery and Wordsmith for the early copy. I am absolutely obsessed and I cannot wait to see where Emery takes us next!

When a book makes you take on the emotions the characters feel, to the point that your heart and soul are connected to the characters you know it’s a sign of a truly talented author… and that my friends is the magic of Emery Rose.

I knew going into this book, it wasn’t going to be an easy road for these two, the teasers that I saw leading up to the release, as well as the fact that Emery is the queen of angsty and emotional romances (that wreck you in the best ways possible).

Noah and Hayley… are childhood friends to lovers… on paper they should be together, but they have so much trauma and baggage, to overcome. They have internal growth that needs to happen. It’s a no brainer that Hayley and Noah are soulmates, they have this once in a lifetime deep connection, a love that transcends time. Their past is what has broken them apart but even apart they cannot move on, they are eachothers addiction, and they will never be able to go through life without eachother…. Without Noah there is no Hayley and without Hayley there is no Noah.

There were times early on where I wanted to shake them, because as a reader you are like you love eachother just be happy!?!? Emery puts us in this story, when things are already broken… we don’t fully understand what got them to where they are today… I definitely recommend trusting the process because as the story unravels and the past comes to the surface… it all comes together and you understand more and more what has broken them apart. Both characters are hard headed and stubborn, they love so deeply and will shield the other take on the internal burdens of life for everyone else around… which in the end comes at a price.

This story is messy and angsty… it deals with growth and trauma. It shows that not all relationship are easy and some need to be faught for. These characters are flawed and messy, and very much act their age… 20 year olds make mistakes and at times do what they think is right, when it actually leaves chaos in your wake. This is one of the most beautiful love stories I read… it deals with love in all its aspects of life. It’s chaotically captivating, and Noah and Hayley prove that love is worth fighting for now, and until the end of time.

How many chances does it take to make it right? Three. This book had my emotions everywhere. Noah and Hayley were meant to be together and I truly felt it through the whole book. The angst in this at times broke me but I kept reminding myself that it was a happy ending. I understood Noah's addiction and Hayley's fears. Their path together was rough to read but the book is worth every word. I absolutely loved the plot it was what I needed to read at that point in time. Emery's stories are worth the tears. I can't wait to see what she comes up with next.

Emery Rose's When the Stars Rise is the long awaited story of Noah McCallister and his childhood sweetheart Hayley St. James, both of whom grew up in The Lost Stars series and easily found a place in the hearts of its readers. The devotion this couple held for each other was incredible but it was not without an intense amount of dysfunction. This story saw the culmination of their dysfunction and the aftermath of long held secrets and painful memories coming to light.

Noah became an extreme athlete and not unlike his other family members was an adrenaline junky yet he took it a step further taking risks that many would never attempt or even survive from. Haley became a famous musician who was risk averse sheltering herself from harm in all its forms. Noah and Haley's opposition in how to approach their lifestyle choices did not coincide, setting the stage for them to make hard choices. This author was able to retain the sweetness and goodness of these characters even in their darkest moments showing the reasons why their love for each other was worth fighting for.

There was a lot of growing up in this work and the struggles that came with it. Pushing limits, forcing one's own expectations on others and realizing that love is sometimes not enough. Relationships take work and no matter how much love there is, other factors play a part in building a long lasting successful relationship. Noah and Haley's was an intense and complicated bond, their physical connection was fiery but their emotional tie was one of a kind and profound. This was not an easy read as it was full of hard issues and lots of angst but as is always the case with this author it was worth taking the journey.

Emery Rose's works are intimately acquainted with tragedies and their aftermaths. This author sees her portrayals' pain and brings them to places of acceptance and love with kindness and a new found toughness to endure and move on. Emery Rose's When the Stars Rise was a darkly beautiful story that proved that love is not always easy but worth the risk.

*I was given an advanced copy. All opinions expressed are my own. *
*While part of a series this work can be read as a stand-alone but for an overall enhanced reading experience reading the previous books in this series is recommended.

A childhood-best-friends/second-chance-romance between a pop star and an extreme athlete, this is an emotional and angsty rollercoaster with an epic love and all the feels.

This is the 5th book in the Lost Stars series, and though it can be read as a standalone, there are some complicated dynamics to navigate with this one. Noah and Hayley were in the first book of the series as four year old best friends… Beware spoilers for past books while reading this…. .

In this book, Noah and Hayley are 22 years old. She’s a famous pop star in the middle of a tour, and he’s a famous Youtuber who found success and fame sharing his passion for death-defying sports. They are best friends, soulmates, each other’s ‘person’, and are madly in love with each other. Though they’ve been together in the past, they’re not currently in a relationship, with a tragic and complex history between them. When Hayley invites Noah to join her on her tour, he drops everything to be there for her as always, both of them hoping that this time, things might end differently for them.

It fucking hurts to think there’s a chance we won’t end up together. I used to believe that she was my end game. The girl I’d marry, raise a family with and grow old with. Never doubted it for a minute when we were younger.
But now I don’t even know if that’s true anymore. Her walls are high, my shields are up, and if there’s any chance of making this work we’d need to take a wrecking ball to our fortress and raize it to the ground.
Whatever we decide, we can’t stay stuck in this limbo forever. It’s not fair to either of us.

There is SO much emotion between these two. You can feel their deep love, their wild attraction for each other, and their easy and natural connection, and I loved the sense of longing and anticipation watching them reunite again. Their backstory is revealed slowly, so it takes a while for us to fully understand their past, all they’ve been through, and the reasons they are not together, and it’s a lot.

There was a time when I didn’t know where he started, and I left off. It’s that soul-deep, unshakable love that, no matter how much time and distance we put between us, our souls will always call each other back home.
He is, and always has been, my one true home.
Unfortunately, we can’t seem to get our shit together.

With both of them so desperate for each other, we watch them inevitably come back together, and I loved how happy they are, how complete they make each other, and how beautiful, natural and passionate their love for each other is. But they both have significant trauma from the past which neither of them have fully dealt with, they don’t know how to resolve the issues that tore them apart last time, and there are still big secrets to be revealed. Collectively, it’s a hot mess that will take a lot of unravelling.

It's an emotional rollercoaster full of angst. There is push and pull, ups and downs, heartache, trauma and frustration. But in the middle of it all is this beautiful, pure love. They want each other more than anything and can’t keep away, they just have to figure it all out. And after years of back and forth, they finally get to a place where they’re ready and able to do that.

“I carry you everywhere, you know. Even when we’re a thousand miles apart, I still see your face in a crowd. You’ve always been the only one I see.”

It’s a dramatic ride and my heart ached for both Noah and Hayley as they tried to figure it all out. It’s raw and messy, and they both make mistakes along the way, but it felt authentic to the characters, who they are, and all that they’ve been through. There are some unexpected moments, and it was a little drama-heavy for me, but they put in the work, they fight for their HEA, and they do get their happy ending.

We get to see characters from the previous books, and Noah and Hayley have a close group of friends around them. It did take me a little bit to wrap my head around who was who, and I wish I could recall if they tie-in to the couples of the series, but it’s been a while since the last book was released and I just couldn’t remember. But some of those characters are set up for stories of their own, and though this reads as if it’s the final of the series, with a nice full-circle type of ending, I’d be keen to read more.

A beautiful love story, I really enjoyed this one.

3.5 stars.

Disclaimer: I received this book at no cost from the publisher/author. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. I am leaving a voluntary review and all opinions are my own.

Emery Rose can tell a story that reaches you at your core. I have been such a fan of this author since I fell in love with her Love and Chaos series. This book sits pretty well with all of her other masterpiece stories.

Emery Rose is such an outstanding author. She has a magnetic writing style that draws you in. The story was so addicting. The plot was compelling and entertaining. I couldn't get enough.

These characters were so intense and complex. They were relatable and had distinct personalities that really stood out. I loved all of the emotions that Rose packed into these characters. I loved how authentic the characters were. They had flaws and made mistakes and the reader really gets to dive deep into their lives and experience their journey. The character development was fantastic. The cast of side characters is awesome and really brings things together and adds so much depth to the story.

I am such a sucker for romances where the characters have known each other closely since childhood. I love all of the emotions associated with that kind of dynamic. Noah and Hayley's relationship was complicated because they brought out some of the best in each other but there was also some toxicity so they are constantly tipping the scale from one side to the other. They have to really work themselves out to make their relationship work. Deep down their love is authentic and consuming.

Overall, this was a beautifully crafted romance full of angst and a plethora of feels. I can't recommend this book, series, or author enough. Emery Rose is truly a masterful storyteller who can make you feel a plethora of emotions and entertain you with a profound story that you will remember for a long time to come. I am sad to see this series come to an end but I am so stoked for Rose's next release.

“Our love used to shine so bright. We were just kids. Too young to know better. Too selfish to compromise. Obsessed to the point of madness. God, we were such a beautiful mess.”

Another brilliant book by this author who rights romance for those who love to see the true grit of people who aren’t all polished and shiny. When the Stars Rise is a second generation standalone. This is Noah and Haley’s third chance to make it and if they can’t overcome their hurdles this time, it’s time to accept they never will. I was totally invested in this story from the beginning until the end, struggling to put it down to be an adult. The characters had depth, redeeming qualities and enough luggage to fill a cargo carrier. We were taken on an emotional roller coaster as the layers were peeled back to reveal their truths. Anything worth having in life takes hard work and perseverance and this angsty tale had it in spades. My heart broke for Noah and Haley, I cried tears of despair and joy as I cheered them on from my chair.

Noah and Haley have been best friends since they were four years old. Their bond runs deep with each other’s families that they consider their own. It was written in the stars that they’d be together forever, but no one said it would be an easy journey. Their love is not in question because without a doubt they loved each other, but was love enough? Haley is a successful musician, she spends half of her life on a tour bus while she shares her talent with the world. Noah is a thrill seeking traveller, recording all of his stunts for his many followers who are in awe of his bravery. All of this is done without thinking how this affects Haley and his family who think he suffers with an adrenaline addiction, has a death wish or both. Can they get on the save wave length and make it work? They say third times the charm.

Noah infuriated me several times. But I also understood him. He’s a dumb man. He thinks he has to protect and be strong and unafraid of everything. Too bad his fears almost end it all.

Hayley saddened me. But she also gives incredible hope. Because she’s strong and stubborn and doing far more saving than she’s given credit for by most. Except Dean. I’m pretty sure he sees it all, especially based on his conversations with Noah. He knows Hayley. He knows how hard she fights. And when it all goes sideways, Hayley proves that she truly is the strong one. She doesn’t opt to throw nasty barbs. She goes for truth and honesty and avoids the insults that pain spits out.

Even with the angst and anger and misery, there’s love. Hope. True and first and maybe lost loves all at once. The painful lessons to be learned in realizing that you can’t protect and coddle someone while claiming they’re your true partner. You can’t lie and pretend that it’s okay because it wasn’t eye to eye. But you can also come back from the very very edge if given the right motivation. And that’s exactly what this is. Motivation to find the truth and figure out what to do with it.

Thanks to these two, I can’t wait to go back to another family. I still want more of this one, but I see where the road might head next and I’m all in for that ride!

This whole series hold such a special place in my heart, so reading this felt like such a bittersweet ending but in my opinion it finished perfectly and I cannot praise Emerys writing enough!

I enjoyed every minute of this, it was full of angst and emotion, something I know Emery can deliver with ease.
Hayley and Noah have been friends since they were little and as they have grown, as has their relationship. We meet them as already two broken people who have tried to be together but can’t seem to make it work due their own fears, grief and secrets.
They both love so hard and fiercely protect one another to the point that letting go is just not an option.
Hayley and Noah are proof that love is worth fighting for ❤️
I absolutely adored the cameos of Noah’s parents and family and the fact that Noah and Hayley are friends with the kids from the Love and Chaos series made my heart so happy 🥰

Seeing this series come full circle has been so worth the emotional ride. I cannot wait to see what is next.

The sole reason for this being only 4 stars rather than 5 is because I wish so badly I read the previous books. It was technically promoted as a standalone but I do believe the story would have been so much richer if I had more background. That’s not to say it wasn’t wonderful, because it absolutely was. Noah and Hayley have made me want to immediately read this entire series from the beginning and learn everything I have sorely missed out on. If this book is an indication of what awaits me in the beginning parts of this series, boy am I in for a ride and I cannot wait. The depth of this story alone between these two characters gives me the idea that the amount of angst I’m facing with the rest of this cast of characters is not something to take lightly. Not only a second chance but a third chance romance that will turn you upside down and then right side up again. I thoroughly enjoyed it and have every intention of potentially re-reading to let it really take hold once I have caught up in the series. 4/5 stars….FOR NOW. 🫶🏻

“But before all that, our love used to shine so bright. We were just kids. Too young to know better. Too selfish to compromise. Obsessed to the point of madness. God, we were such a beautiful mess. And now, I just want to find a way to put all that behind us and move on. I’m hoping this will be our third chance to get it right.”

Earlier today I read the last page, of the last ever book, in my all-time favourite series - The Lost Stars. It’s such a bittersweet feeling, but the happiness definitely outweighs the sorrow because in When the Stars Rise, Emery Rose has given our beloved McCallister’s one beautifully perfect send off 💫. You can literally feel the love seeping from the pages of this EPIC story.

If you haven’t yet devoured this series, fear not! When the Stars Rise is the first next generation book and can also be read as a standalone. This is Noah and Hayley’s story, and our babies are all grown up! While both chasing their dreams they’re each carrying a mountain of baggage and hoping third-times-a-charm in finally getting their HEA.

There is absolutely no shortage of love between these two, they are completely obsessed with each other and have that magical bond that only lifelong best friends share. What’s the problem then? Just be together? Ha - if only life was that simple! These are the McCallisters we’re talking about! What ensures is a roller coaster of a tale taking the readers on a journey so raw, and angsty, and absolutely beautiful.

As were taken on a roadtrip to some epic locations through Emery’s exquisite world building, Hayley and Noah’s layers are peeled right back and their truths exposed. The age old saying ‘anything worth having is worth the fight’ rings so true, but also - be true to yourself.

There are cameos aplenty (even some surprise crossovers!) so find a comfy spot, grab a few tissues, and enjoy this masterpiece! I couldn’t recommend this book highly enough And rate it 5/5 Rising Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I loved this! It had all the angst I needed in a childhood best friends to lovers to friends and back again. I always enjoy next generation books because we get glimpses of the characters we first fell in love with but now get to see how the kids grew up. Noah has been around since the beginning so it was fun to get his story now that he's all grown up. I also really liked that she included the characters from her Love & Chaos series in this as well.

I have never read anything by this author before but when I saw the tropes for this book I knew I needed to read it!!

Right person wrong time was very much a huge factor to this book and I loved all of the angst!!

No two people deserve each other more than Hayley and Noah. The love these two have for each other is infinite.

So glad I read this book!

When The Stars Rise ~ Emery Rose

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

If you don’t know by now, the Lost Stars series is a favourite of mine, with book 1 being my favourite book of all time. I was so excited to read Noah and Hayley’s book, and it was the perfect way to end off the series.

Fast forward from When The Storm Breaks and we have Noah and Hayley all grown up. Hayley is now a famous singer on tour. Noah is into extreme sports which he films for YouTube.

✨best friends to lovers
✨second chance
✨angsty

I devoured this book! I purposely took my time reading this one because I knew once it was over that was the end of the Lost Stars series. If you haven’t already, make sure you read the entire Lost Stars series, you will not be disappointed!

When The Stars Rise may have risen in the end, but not before the delivery of a truly beautifully deep narrative.
It was no wonder Emery Rose had you hook, line and sinker in this all consuming real page turner that resulted in being 5⭐️ as well as a Top Fav 2024 read of mine.
With the deliverance of an impactful journey that took you on a super emotionally charged ride that was angsty filled above and beyond the brim, Noah and Hayley kept you gripped on tightly throughout.

You know a book is truly amazing when the author has you at a loss of words, so much so that you can’t even comprehend how to find the words to write a review that will do the book justice with telling how incredibly fantastic it really was.

Emery Rose has done it yet again, but that is no surprise considering the books she has delivered to date from the Lost Stars series.
Making When The Stars Rise the latest addition to that.

Noah James McCallister and Hayley ‘Hales’ Peterson aka Hayley Saint James were first introduced to us at just 4 years old in When The Stars Fall.
And now at 22 years of age, it is their time to shine in telling their story that went from Childhood Best Friends to Lovers back to Best Friends who had a Second and Third Chance.

Just like Jude and Lila, Noah and Hayley’s love story may have been written in their stars.
However the journey they ventured upon proved it was going to be far from easy, courtesy of their past and present issues that always seemed to be at play along the way.
Trekking through trials and tribulations that included fighting their own personal inner demons considering the battles they faced individually and simultaneously together from the trauma bond they shared impacted the two heavily. Especially when you took into account the many hurdles and obstacles they just kept on coming their way, determining if their Third Chance would be it for them. Or break them, causing them to walk away.
At the same time the results they got from all this helped them in a way to see the bigger picture, coming to the conclusion from knowing and understanding whether all that they were fighting for to be with each other worth it.

“I can see in his eyes that he understands what I mean without having to say it. He feels it, too—this deep connection that goes beyond sex. I don’t know where he begins and I end.”

Although Noah and Hayley went through their fair shares of ups, downs, highs and lows with having to climb many high mountains in their relationship.
The work that they put into it, not only from all the fighting they did with pushing through, but also not wanting to give up proved they were it, soulmates with being each others endgame. Deserving the HEA they had fought so incredibly hard for.

There were times where When The Stars Rise did give me vibes that had me reminiscing of the past books from the series. Yet never did it feel the same with Emery ensuring that the story of their journey was one of their very own.
All Noah and Hayley completely and wholly.

If there are somethings that Emery Rose does and that too so very incredibly well it would be one how her words translated all the heart and soul she poured into the storytelling of Noah and Hayley.
The nitty, gritty, rawness truly came through from being able to dive down thoroughly into the character development of Noah and Hayley, where they shined bright from the in-depth deep level of exploration we were given thanks to their POV chapters that showed their inner monologue, opening them on an even further scale.
Another would be the majorly intense emotionally charged, highly angsty driven rollercoaster she had us riding throughout.
The outpour of heavy emotions alongside the angsty-ness within When The Stars Rise hit deep and hard from the impact it had on me alone.
Honestly the punches just kept on rolling from the deep sentiments that just came gushing out endlessly when delving deeper into Noah and Hayley.
Especially in regards to their feelings towards one another that bought out many occasions of angst (as well as from within their lives given their careers) that just always seemed to be on blast, particularly in their inner monologue.

It has to be said, I absolutely loved and enjoyed the sibling group chat Noah had between himself and his siblings Levi, Gracie and Zane.
So much so, it had me wishing there had been more group chat moments given how truly hilarious it was with seeing the way the siblings interacted with one another.
And of course can’t forget about the appearances of other McCallister family members in the form of secondary characters, particularly Daddy Jude! Swoon!
It was nice to get an update on them to see how they were doing and what they were up to as of late.

Noah and Hayley’s story was truly an amazingly incredible and beautifully deep one that had you hook, line and sinker all the way in this truly real page turner.
Major applaud to Emery Rose for the chefs kiss that is When The Stars Rise.
As well as for the wrapping up of Lost Stars series, which was done so beautifully, even though it is bittersweet knowing the chapter has now officially closed on the spectacular storytelling of the family that was the McCallister’s.

This book, and whole series, is so incredibly beautiful, and I just *knew* this couple would bring on a whole new level of heartbreak -- and I wasn't wrong! This is an epic love that was once so pure and untarnished that evolved into something almost toxic, but yet neither Noah or Hayley could walk away from because they were some embedded into each others souls. There is no Noah without Hayley or vise versa, and even through all the ups and downs in their complicated history, the love they had for one another never went away.

Hayley and Noah grew up together -- this family is a tight bunch for sure -- and have always been together ; whether it was falling out of tree houses, first kisses, first love, finding out family secrets, the accident that changed everything and their individual stardom, they were always never far from one another. But things took a turn for the worse the night that Hayley lost her adoptive parents in a car accident, and then again when she and Noah broke up for the second time. Now these two are in a weird limbo where they aren't together, but they are still very much in love, yet at the same time they are both too scared to make a move because if it ends badly again, they'll have no choice but to let each other go once and for all.

Noah has always been Hayley's protector, but now she's trying to save him -- she's a famous musician (and idk if anyone picked up on it, but there were a LOT of parallels between Hayley and TSwift. Maybe it's because I'm obsessed with Tay, but regardless, that's who I kept coming back to) and all of her music ties to Noah in some beautiful, heartbreaking way. She hires him to be apart of her tour for the next six weeks to try to get him to see how much of an adrenaline junkie he is, and he's much more like a fellow addict we all know and kind of adore (Hello, Dean!) than he wants to believe. Hayley thinks her love can save him, and she's doing everything in her power to have him open up to her and recapture the relationship and friendship they once had, hut will this all be her undoing in the process?

Noah is a famous daredevil -- he will jump off or do anything dangerous to feel that infinite rush that makes him forget all the horrible things he's been through. He went through two losses back to back that hit him really hard, so he's almost a shell of who he once was. Working on this tour with Hayley brings up so many things for him that he's tried to keep under lock and key, but also just reiterates that she's the one for him. He would love her in every lifetime and considers her his soul mate, if only they could just get it right. He needs to get out of his own way, and she needs to find a way to move past her fears -- if only they could do that before their hearts break once more.

They both have a lot of hard conversations to move past all the hurt they've done to one another, and I love just how important the topic of mental health was showcased here. I love how as a society we're becoming more accepting that men need (and should) go to therapy and that bottling everything up and burying it is not healthy whatsoever.

I really appreciated how open and honest they were finally able to be with one another, I just wish it hadn't taken nearly the whole book to do so. I also wish that they weren't with different people during their separation-- it's brought up early on how much of a heartbreaker Noah is, and then one of his flings get mentioned, and then that's something they never talk about. I just feel for as two people who loved each other as much as they said they did, that would have been left out. I wish they had just communicated more too -- they would start to have a conversation and they would either get interrupted or they would just stop taking about it -- and this would happen repeatedly. I also felt like there should have been another conversation between Hayley and Shiloh, and shown a bit more closure there as well.

Despite the few hang ups I have, this was a really beautiful book. I definitely would recommend reading the second book in this series (Brody and Shilo's) before this one so you understand all the family dynamics. And honestly that book is my favorite in the series anyways, so it's a must read!

I can't wait to see how else Emery will destroy our hearts with her next release!

Whenever I pick an Emery Rose book, I know it will rip my heart out of my chest. I look forward to the angst destroying me. And even with all the mental preparation, she still manages to wreck me throughly with a story like When the Stars Rise. It's an epic forbidden love story spreading across years with heart wrenching ups and downs. At the end, I didn’t even know why I am crying. From the pain? From the redemption? From the happily ever after? This is the kind of book that leaves a mark on your heart forever. This is the kind of book that makes your heart ache for years to come, every time you think about certain scenes. Powerful emotions. Beautiful writing. Broken and perfect people. This is why I read romance.

Extreme athlete star Noah McCallister and pop star Hayley St. James have a complex history, to say the least. From childhood best friends to suffering big trauma together to falling in love to finding out their long distant stepsibling connection to breaking each other's hearts repeatedly but never letting go properly..they have seen it all. When Noah joins her tour this time, he wants this to be the final chance to find their happily ever after. But can Hayley let go of her fears? Can Noah let go of his adrenaline addiction?

This story has some triggering factors like mental health issues and death so pay attention. Noah and Hayley's connection is so difficult to express in my words but the author certainly didn't have the same problem and she took us right into middle of this messy angsty heartbreaking all consuming love. Secrets and lies taint even the purest thing..like Noah and Hayley's love. Noah has been hiding some life altering truths from Hayley including the reason he does the extreme sports and why he cannot stop and why he has to protect Hayley so viciously. I cannot imagine the burden on his soul. To love so fiercely and then losing it..gah it broke my heart! Hayley is such a pretty sweet soul. Life has been so unkind and unfair. And she pours all the pain and anger and grief into her music. Losing Noah is her biggest fear and she cannot hold onto him hard enough. Every time Noah risks his life, she feels that she isn't enough, that Noah isn't choosing her and that..she will lose the reason to carry on. It was a lose-lose situation. Years of complicated emotions are churning between them and it was so difficult to handle sometimes. They had to process all the loss and pain and secrets to reach a place where they can again love openly and unconditionally .I know that they are fictional but my heart didn't get the memo. I cried, I laughed, I swooned and I lost few years of life riding this emotional rollercoaster and I still don't want to get down. Emery Rose has such an intense and devastating writing style that always wins my heart . Unquestionably, undoubtedly and irrevocably..When The Stars Rise is one of my top 2024 read.

When the Stars Rise is a bittersweet story with a lovable cast of characters and so much love and heartache felt throughout. A McCallister angsty read filled with all the feels.

This book isn't like the past McCallister stories, which is great on so many levels, but because of both Noah and Hayley's long and shared history together this book is tangled in a web of deep emotions that tore my heart in two several times. Be prepared for lots of angst.

Noah and Hayley never fell out of love. Their love ran deep and was felt throughout the entire book, but perhaps it was also their undying love and devotion to one another that was their biggest underlying problem. They've always had each other to rely on and never once doubted their love for one another, even when they weren't together. They are each other's safe space. Their rock. Their home. Their first everything. It's only been life, circumstances, and major decisions that have pulled them apart.

Noah McCallister and Hayley Saint James have a lot of baggage. So it's easy to say, "just talk it out and things will work out." But the deeper into the heart of the story I went and truths were uncovered between them, "just talking out their past issues" wasn't their main problem.

Noah lives life on the edge and Hayley sort of doesn't. Yes, she's a huge music star, but she doesn't jump off cliffs, or skydive, she has bodyguards around her 24/7 and is basically never alone. That isn't the life Noah leads and that isn't the life Hayley wants. She doesn't understand Noah's need to seek the adrenaline rush, basically he's seeking to end his life in her eyes, when Noah proclaims he's living his best life. This is a huge sticking point, but honestly it's a point of self sabotage for both of them, in a manner of speaking.

How do you ever move forward when every argument comes back to the same fork in the road? How do you move forward when you know you profoundly love someone you've loved your entire life, but their life choices make it impossible to actually move forward? You see how this circle of self-destruction continues....

How do you stay with the one you love when it also breaks your heart in so many ways? This is the crux of Noah and Hayley's story and I have to admit I was quite intrigued, even when my heart was torn on two.

This book is a bumpy, emotional ride, but well worth it.

The Lost Stars series comes to it’s bittersweet end with Hayley and Noah. I was so excited to see Emery was writing another story in this series, then my excitement went to another level when I learned it was about the next generation. When The Stars Rise is very angsty romance filled with plenty of push and pull between two people I’d consider soul mates.

Hayley Saint James is a famous pop star that grew up in small town Texas with her best friend Noah McCallister. They have always had a strong connection, but multiple hardships have threatened to break it. Noah’s now on tour with Hayley and they have to decide if they try their relationship for a third time or give it up for good.

I actually really liked that these two had history/an established connection from the very beginning of the book. It not only leaves you guessing about their past, but lets you see right away how strong their feelings are. I wish we could have seen them in an established relationship more/sooner, but there was still plenty of romantic moments between them. It also did feel confusing at points when we didn’t know a certain aspect of their past yet or why their relationship was so strained, but I still liked it overall. I also loved the tour aspect of the story and the different locations/events that took place.

Emery writes some angsty romance that has me on the edge of my seat wondering how things will work out. Hayley and Noah had to face many different emotions, hardships and outside influences in their relationship. They both had to grow themselves and face their pasts before giving their relationship another chance. As I said, their story was a lot of push/pull and ups/downs. I really did wonder the whole time how their relationship would end up and overcome their past.

When the Stars Rise is without doubt my favourite book of the series. I would recommend that the previous books be read first as there are recurring characters in the series and it will give a little more background.

I loved everything about this storyline it was a total angst fest from the start. Hayley and Noah's relationship changed over the years and we get glimpses of their childhood friendship that grew into a deep abiding love. They haven't been able to make it work for various reasons and this reconciliation feels like the last chance saloon. I liked the way we got both perspectives of how they see their issues. Like any couple they have different ideas of what happened and it felt wrong to take sides because I could see where both had gone wrong. Noah has always deemed himself to be Hayley's protector but this and his secrets are at the price of his relationship and his mental health. They are both very stubborn and I just wanted them to have a talk where they let everything out and this does happen ..... eventually. I like that although the parents and characters from previous books are mentioned they don't dominate and allow them to work through their issues with just a few words of advice. I liked the spice level between them, it never felt overdone but just a natural part of their love story.

I know there is more to come from characters in this series but this book felt like what every previous book was leading towards. A beautifully written story that had me emotionally wrung out especially when Noah finally reveals his truths. I cannot wait for what is to come.

Wow, this isn't the McCallister that people were expecting this book to be about, but my god, it was the book we needed. This book was a really special story, one I cried so much reading. There were some really beautiful moments, but this book was filled with moments that broke my heart and, at times, ripped it out. I wasn't ever sure what the outcome of this story would be. Right up to the last few chapters, and even then, I was surprised.

Hayley and Noahs story was an angst filled, emotionally complicated story one that spans almost twenty years. And for two very young people, their lives had been hit with so much. We sort of get a glimpse of some of what occurs over the years in earlier books. Now, as to what transpires the later years, I feel you need to read it all first hand. So this review will remain a spoiler free one.

Please go into this book with an open mind and heart. Grab some tissues and allow this book to take you on one hell of a journey. I know this series is coming to a close, and although I prey, we'll get stories from other characters in this book. I believe the McCallister family have told their stories for now.

This book is a huge recommend from me. I may even say this is my favourite book of this series. Although I say that about them all. And lastly, I just need to say Bravo, Emery Rose, and thank you.

It’s here!!! Since I met Noah as a kid in When The Stars Fall, I’ve been looking forward to this book.

🎤 Rockstar
🎤 Friends to Lovers
🎤 Second Chance
🎤 Soulmates
🎤 Forced Proximity

Noah and Hayley have been best friends since they were 4 years old. They’ve been through hell and back but no matter if they’re together or apart, they’re the best of friends.

Both dealing with trauma. Both desperately in love and wanting to fix their issues, they’ve agreed to one last chance to see if they can be together.

Lies, blame, guilt, secrets… all the angst imaginable. This two had me on the edge of my seat. Neither are perfect but they’re so perfect for one another.

I loved every moment of this story! The way Emery Rose Andrews writes is addicting.

Thank you Wordsmith Publicity for the #gifted e-arc

I was surprised and so so happy when Emery shared that the final book in her Lost Stars series would be about Noah and Hayley. It was the second gen book I didn't realize we would get, Knowing we were made my heart so happy. I truly enjoyed their story so so much. It was so different than the other books but with the same heart stopping, heart wrenching and swoony moments I've come to love with her books. I loved that the friendship and love we read between Noah and Hayley in When the Storm Breaks grew and solidified and was its own living thing in When the Stars Rise. I loved reading them fighting for each other. I loved reading who they grew up to be. I loved reading about Jude & Lila, Brody (MY MAN!) & Shiloh, Ridge & Evie. I truly loved it all! The epilogue had me in tears. These characters and stories will be in my heart forever.
