Yesterday, 04 March, at least 15 people were reportedly killed during a series of attacks by suspected M23 rebels in Rutshuru territory, North Kivu Province.

Further details of the attacks are to be confirmed.

The incidents demonstrate the sustained threat of militant violence in North Kivu that has remained elevated despite an increase in the presence of local and regional forces. Further arbitrary and targeted M23 attacks on civilians and security personnel alike should be anticipated in various areas of the province over the near-medium term. 

Given the elevated risk of violence, clients are advised to exercise extreme caution when in the North Kivu Province. Nonessential travel to the province should be avoided.
