Fresh out of college, I stumbled into the opportunity of a lifetime. A classmate of my favorite professor was looking to retire and sell his animal hospital. With a lot of help and a giant push from my sister and her husband, I made an offer. I’m now the proud owner of Wags Veterinary Hospital in Trenton, New Jersey.
Life is good. I have a home with a beautifully landscaped lawn, a business that I love, and an amazing tribe of friends who encourage me to “put myself out there.” Truth be told, I prefer animals over most people. I’m happy with the occasional girls’ night in and catching a glimpse of the hot neighbor, who I undeniably fantasize about, and do so often.
Those fantasies, however, come to a dramatic end when I see him walking his new puppy on my property and not cleaning up its mess, twice. There’s nothing hot about a man who doesn’t take care of his crap, or his dog’s. Nothing.
Fantasy ruined.

I absolutely loved this book! Cece and her crazy and funny tribe of best friends are hilarious!
Roman is her hot neighbor she can’t stop fantasizing about. And what a coincidence they accidentally met at a concert! That was first base for him with her when they kiss!
This bookalso has Jase and Cyrus Steel 🔥 and oh the memories!! So good I’m planning on reading them again.
CeCe and Rome are neighbors with benefits but he wants something more and omg he is a gorgeous gentleman! Eventually they fall in love and I’m so happy that he was always supportive of what was happening with her personal life.
Such an amazing book written with a great dialogue. Really good attention to details and steamy love scenes.

Roman freaking Hart! He’s the second baseman for the Jersey Jags and he is getting a second chance at baseball. I loved seeing how much of a family man he is. Even though he didn’t have a great childhood, he still loves with his whole heart.
Cecilia “CeCe” Shaw is a vet who has had a horrible upbringing. I love how much she and her sister love and support each other. They were all each other had growing up, you see their strength shining through.
5 out of the park stars! Roman & CeCe’s story was great from the very first page. This story has some issues that can be triggers for some, so make sure you look into them. But please give this story a chance. It will show you that love always finds a way to heal a hurting heart.

Stealing Second: A Grumpy Sunshine, a Close Proximity, Baseball, Sports Romance (Rounding The Bases Book 2) by M. J. Fields is about Cecilla, a veterinary doctor and owner who meets Roman, a hot guy at a Memphis Black and STD concert who protects her from being trampled by unruly fans and moves her closer to her friends, whom she dubs #GymBro because of his muscular arms. Later, as she sees a man walking his dog on her property and not picking up her little “presents,” they face off. It is then CeCe realizes Gym Bro and Hot Neighbor are the same person who happens to be named Roman. Realizing the puppy has some digestive issues, CeCe steps in to help and gains a new friend in Roman, who begins to pursue the beautiful redhead who lives next door after she attends a Jag MLB game with her friends and finds out he’s 2nd basemen on the team. Roman and CeCe had similar upbringings, having been raised by a single mom and having less-than-stellar dads. Yet deadly secrets unfold as character strengths stretch, and nightmares reign dangerously as friends and families arrive in town for ball games and to offer support. CeCe and her sister Chole, a side character from the first book, shed light on her upbringing concerning CeCe and make it, even more a wonderful book to realize what the sisters both lived through and had to overcome before either girl could grow into their own and accept that each deserved to be loved even when each felt unlovable. Roman is also a well-rounded, good guy who loves family and is an actual cinnamon roll hero who can be gentle yet attempts to reign in his alpha protective nature when needed.
There are trigger warnings accompanying the reading of Stealing Second, which deals with abuse (off the page), but M. J. Fields treats the traumatic events with sensitivity and discretion. As I read the pages, I shed tears, yet at other times, I rejoiced with characters as each found healing and peace. I saw so many of my previous favorite Steele characters from M.J. Field's books that I need to go back and reread them just for fun. I love her books as they are never shallow, but Stealing Second has depth and meat to the storyline with a “just right” dose of spice and heat. M. J. Field’s books are not ‘just’ simple romances but complex stories that hit the “sweet spot” every time you read one.

Stealing Second is the 2nd book in the Rounding the Bases series. It is part of an interconnected series but can be read as a standalone. After reading Taking First, we knew that the next book would be about Chloe and her younger sister, Cecelia. Cecelia is a veterinarian and prefers to be around animals more so than people. She is definitely a grumpy, get off my lawn kind of girl (lol). She is living in Trenton, NJ where Whit and Pope from the 1st book are living. She has a great group of friends who are always trying to get her to go out. She finally goes to a concert with them and in the midst of people crowding around her, she starts to have a panic attack but is steadied by a tattooed buff guy who she nicknames "gym bro." Gym Bro is actually her new neighbor, Roman Hart, and the rookie starting 2nd baseman on the Jersey Jags baseball team, the same team Pope plays for. Initially she is not a fan because she has caught him twice letting his puppy do take care of business on her lawn and he doesn't clean it up. It isn't until she is at a Jags game with her friends that she realizes that Gym Bro is her hot neighbor and a MLB player. They eventually bond over his puppy, who has tummy problems. Roman has been smitten with Cecelia since he laid eyes on her, hopping down her driveway, trying to get her shoes on as she is running late for work. Roman is just the sweetest cinnamon roll guy, a mama's boy, and loves his family and faith. Both he and Cecelia (CeCe for short) have traumatic pasts. I love that we learn so much more about CeCe's older sister Chloe and her husband Danny who were in the previous book. Chloe and CeCe's past is painfully tragic and shows just how much they have overcome. As in the first book, there is some suspense and danger that keeps you on the edge of your seat. I know that this review is kind of all over the place and is not the best review I have ever written, but I truly loved this book. It had me laughing and I shed some tears. Roman Hart is prime husband material. I could not put this book down and I am looking forward to the next book. Stealing Second is not super spicy but it is a well rounded story that is really fleshed out. There are some trigger warnings that some people might want to heed.

Cece. I love her personality so much, she is funny, smart, beautiful but so caring. She has had a really tough childhood, the only person that really looked after her was her sister Chloe. Chloe, as in Whitley and Pope's friend Chloe. When she is introduced to Rome, she can't help but be drawn to him.
Rome, I love him!!!! He is such an amazing character. It's evident that he was raised so well by his mum. I think it was so cute that he noticed Cece straight away and he just couldn't not meet her. He too, has gone through some tough times in his life but he is so much wiser for it.
Cece and Rome together is the definition of soul mates. They are just meant to be and I'm so glad they found each other. They are just so whitty and their banter is unmatched. Problem is, Cece's past comes back to bit them and all h3ll breaks out.
I really loved Cece and Rome's story. I can't wait to see what their future holds. I know it's going to be amazing.

Wow! As with the first book in this series, the drama and mystery and underlying stories are just as effective in this installment as the main storyline with Rome and CeCe. I absolutely love these characters. I loved meeting them in Taking First, and I am so glad we get the continue everyone's story as the series goes on.
Rome is getting a second chance with the Jersey Jags and can't quite keep his eyes off his gorgeous neighbor. Veterinarian CeCe cuts loose at a concert one night and ends up kissing the Gym Bro she dances with. Lo and behold, gorgeous neighbor and Gym Bro are none other than, well, each other. Made to be, yeah? (and hot damn, the way Rome ends questions with "yeah?" about did me in!)
I like how Rome and CeCe took their time with their romance. They didn't immediately jump into bed and end up all over each other all the time. They got to be friends, I mean yeah, there were some benefits, but they got to know each other first. Mostly maybe because CeCe had some walls up. But there were reasons!
Plus, we finally know more about CeCe's sister, Chloe - and let me tell you Chloe delivered the most heartbreaking line in Taking First. I had to put the book down and stop reading for a while after that line. I am so glad to be able to read that Chloe is happy, too :)
Sometimes, the people in this series get muddled in my head because there's a LOT of people. but once you set them straight in your head, this ensemble is some of the best found family out there.

She’s a veterinarian with a secretive past, and he’s a rookie finally getting his turn at making his mark. Neither are looking for a relationship, but they can’t seem to resist each other. Can this baseball hottie steal her heart while he’s stealing bases with her?
I loved the first book in this series, but this book was a total home run! Rome and CeCe had a fantastic sassy banter and fiery chemistry!!🔥🔥 The unveiling of her backstory and the suspense plot surrounding that was truly mind-blowing, and very well executed, handling some very sensitive topics with care! The emotions throughout from all the characters felt very authentic, and I loved how everyone came together in this story!! The found family vibes take on a whole new meaning in this one. I don’t want to give anything away, but the twists and turns surprised me and had me going through every emotion! Don’t worry, there were plenty of laughs to be had as well, plus an adorable puppy who practically became a central character!!🥰 Don’t miss this story that releases 4/18/24!! I’m anxiously awaiting the next one!!

Wow, this book was a total home run for me. I enjoyed the first book in this series, but this one blew that book out of the park. This grumpy/sunshine baseball book had me all in my feelings and guessing with the emotional twist and turns I didn't see coming. Nice job, M.J. Fields!

This book has so many twists and turns, and when it comes to unraveling CeCe's past... oh wow, did my emotions come out. This book brought some tears to my eyes along with laughs. Certain things I thought I had figured out, but when it came time to it, I was thrown a curve ball.
This book is a must-read. I definitely recommend reading the first book in this series to get the general idea of a back story involving some of the characters. But this book can be read as a standalone. Amazing job, M.J. Fields. I loved this book.

Wow, this book was a total home run for me. I enjoyed the first book in this series, but this one blew that book out of the park. This grumpy/sunshine baseball book had me all in my feelings and guessing with the emotional twist and turns I didn't see coming. Nice job, M.J. Fields!

This is the second book of the series and fans of the Steel series will LOVE this one. So many familiar faces! And Memphis Black annnnddd Tris's band! All great fan girl worthy moments.
And then we meet Roman Hart. Oh my. A bit grumpy at first but he has a golden heart and is just an all around great person. He's grumpy about trying to not fall in love since his heart was burned before. But once he starts getting to know his neighbor CeCe, all bets are off.
We know CeCe as the baby sister of Chloe. This group of friends grew up on Texas together and are not mostly located in Trenton. The banter and hanging out together times are some of the best I have read. Cece and Rome are perfect together. I love how he goes with her pace and her need for safety and security.
There is a bit of tension and a dramatic climax to the story. But these two hold true and support each other. Really Heart describes the both of them to a tee. They both are about family and trust and having each other's backs.
Loved meeting more of the team. Rome's family is awesome and well. Would love to see Jillian and Hudson get some love!
I can't wait to reach the next one. Lots of fireworks coming between Locke and Gwen I think!

Wow, I thought I loved Pope, but Rome has taken over the #1 spot in my heart. Just the biggest cinnamon roll, he's immediately smitten with Cece.
Their back and forth is sweetly teasing, their attraction clear, but Cece is sure he won't want her once her background is uncovered. They both have rough childhoods, and I think it helps Rome be the supportive, protective, understanding guy she needs when her past comes looking for her.
There are a few unexpected twists to the story, and the intensity made it really difficult to stop reading; I was almost late picking my girls up from school because I needed to find out what was going to happen.
There's so much to love in Cece and Rome's book. Rome's family is awesome, and Cece and her sister have wonderful found family members. Stealing Second is the next standalone in the new baseball series and let me tell you, it was just as enticing as Taking First. I loved the epilogue from the last book that led us into this story and could not wait when all those easter eggs were dropped to find out we would get to see some more of the OG Steel men as who could ever get enough of them right?!
Rome Hart finds himself being offered a chance to play pro ball and once he meets his new neighbour, the cute redhead may just be what he never knew he was looking for. Cece has not had an easy life, she finds it hard to trust those outside her inner circle and prefers the company of animals to people. So when Rome comes crashing into her life and she feels an instant connection, she struggles with the concept of trusting a man to do right by her. Rome must prove he is worthy of her and boy does he do that in spades, this man is all alpha hero from the get go!
The secondary characters are just as much a part of the main story and really helped bring this story to life and made it all the more enjoyable. I can't wait for Hudson's story, he seems like an absolute riot. This was an absolutely fantastic story with some heavy themes that just prove family is what you make it.

Roman is book husband material - hands down
MJ Fields has quickly become one of my favourite authors and this second book in the Rounding the Bases series just secures that further.
After meeting Cece (Cecelia) in “Taking First” I was looking forward to her full story.
Having her own vet practice, home and the security/stability of her family and friends living nearby, Cece is getting a new start, dealing with animals is always preferable to humans. She is a little grumpy and stand-off-ish, but with many secrets about her traumatic past it’s unsurprising.
Roman has just moved in next door, with a second chance at his dream career in the MLB. He is sweet, caring, protective, all around just the best guy with the cutest puppy.
I loved the meet-cute between them that changes both their lives.
Fun banter, high chemistry, and the full scope of emotions. A bit of mystery and suspense, some twists and some sensitive issues (check TWs).
I was hooked from the first page, their story is inspiring, realistic and sweet. The ‘family’ they have collected around them are the absolute best and I wanted to be part of it.
I’m now so looking forward to the next book in this series.

The number of times I swooned for Rome!!! His kind and patient way with Cecelia was adorable. I loved the way he just put all his feelings out there, so that she always knew where he stood, and if she tried to push him away, he stood his ground and showed her how she should be loved.
Cecelia’s sunny disposition was a true testament to her strength and resilience, despite all of the trauma she’d endured as a child. It was so heartwarming to see her walls come down as she finally accepted that she was deserving of all the love!
Some of my favourite moments were the puppy co-parenting between Rome & Cece, and the middle name game made me laugh with every name Rome tested out.
This story was emotional and had me feeling all of the feelings, and I loved it!! It was spicy and suspenseful, and just as I did with MJs other books, I fell in love with the whole cast. I can’t wait for book 3!

This is the second book in MJ Fields awesome baseball series. I just loved Rome and Cece. Cece's organized life is thrown into a tailspin when she realizes her hot kiss at a concert was with her new hot neighbor. Let the sparks fly between them! They have burning hot chemistry that heats up the pages. I love that Cece is a veterinarian. She truly loves animals. Those closest to her and in her inner circle feel her love. She has a special relationship with her sister, brother-in-law, and niece. That warmed my heart. She has her girl squad in her corner. Now she needs to take a risk with her heart. As she gets to know her new neighbor and his teammates she may gain another kind of family. Though there are some serious moments in this book as well because Cece's childhood was rough. A nasty piece of work won't leave the Shaw sisters alone. Some intense moments in this one along with the heat, heart, and humor. I can't tell you how excited I was to see so many cameos from the Steel world. I love when an author's worlds collide. This is a must read. I couldn't put it down. Cece and Rome will stay with me for awhile. I loved their journey and love story so much!!

Hooked from the first page, a story of strength, determination, friendships, and love.
Roman 'Rome' Hart is given a second chance, he may of not been drafted for the NFL with his brother but he's picked to play baseball with the Jags a team owned by one of our favourites the Steele Family so we get to see some of our favourites, but back to Roman he has a huge heart and his family comes first but when he see his red headed neighbour running out her door each morning his curiosity is pipped.
Cecilia 'CeCe' Shaw hasn't had it easy, keeps her circle small and her secrets locked up tight, but when one of those secrets turns up where she lives, the life she is building Is threatened, can she trust enough to let her sexy gym guy/ baseball player in or will.she push him away to protect him, little does she know this guys shoulders can help carry her past and show her what life should be.
Fantastic read and delicate issues handled with compassion and care.

Stealing Second is the second book in The Rounding Bases Series and what another Fantastic book MJ Fields gives us. We meet Roman & CeCe two people who meet at a concert not knowing that their first encounter will change both their lives for the better. CeCe has overcome so much and has become a Veterinary having her own practice but her past is coming back to haunt her and she will do whatever it takes to keep her family safe but when Roman comes into her life she knows that he will be by her side whatever it takes. Roman gets his second chance at a career that he loves and nothing will stand in his way but when his newest neighbor happens to be the woman he meets at a concert he knows that there is a reason she was put into his life. The chemistry between Roman & CeCe is off the charts and watching this couple come together and overcoming whatever obstacles get in their way is such an inspiring story that you know they deserve the HEA after it all.

While Roman is a second chance baseball player, who is hard working and grounded. There are some trigger warnings, as CeCe and her sister Chloe have had a troubled childhood and still struggle.

I loved this book. Amazing characters and wonderful plot. Beautifully written and easy to read. I had many emotions when reading it.

The relationship and banter between these two is very interesting to read about. Passion and chemistry is off the charts.

Ceci has just become the owner of Wags Veterinary Hospital, while Roman has been given the opportunity to play baseball, after turning it down once before. When Roman and Ceci first meet, he knows who she is, but she has no idea that they are neighbors, and they are both haunted by their pasts.
This is a well written story which is an action packed, emotional roller coaster, with family, friendships, grumpy / sunshine, opposites attract, close proximity, drama, undeniable chemistry, angst, danger, suspense, romance, humor, witty banter, and love, which leads to an entertaining, tragic, unpredictable, fun, and steamy baseball romance.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

Stealing Second is book two in the Rounding The Bases Series and it’s a grumpy sunshine romance. If you love friends to lovers you will love Cecilia and Roman’s entertaining journey.
Cecilia a veterinary doctor and clinic owner meets Romance at a Memphis Black and STD concert when he saves her from being trampled. What she didn’t realise was he was her new next door neighbours who has an issue walking his dog on her property without his doggy poo bag. What follows is a face-off between CeCe and Roman before they realise they have a lot more in common than just loving pooches.
This book touched me on so many levels, I swooned, I smiled and at times I held my breath as I cheered this couple on. The chemistry is hot, the characters adorable and this friends to lovers romances is well written and I highly recommend it.

Usually when I read a sports romance it focuses a lot on the sport and doesn’t go into great detail with the main couple. Stealing Second is so different, but in a very positive way. So much of Cece’s past plays a huge part in this story.
From the first time Rome sees CeCe he has an instant connection to her. But because of her past she is reluctant to start anything with him. But the more time she spends with him she starts to trust him more and more and realizes he's not like the others. Trust is something she had a very hard time.
What I also loved about the story was past characters making an appearance. One thing I love about MJ Fields’ books are her characters are never forgotten. They always reappear in future stories. Stealing 2nd may be a sports romance but it is so much more. Some surprises, some tears, but so worthy of every one. A story beyond five stars.
From the first time Rome sees CeCe he has an instant connection to her. But because of her past she is reluctant to start anything with him. But the more time she spends with him she starts to trust him more and more and realizes he's not like the others. Trust is something she had a very hard time.

I couldn't wait to read book 2 because I enjoyed book one in the Rounding the Bases series so much!
This book was good I really enjoyed the emotion, the past that was laid out and the over all flow of everything. Just the over all flow of the story MJ really had me captivated by her words from the very beginning.
This book follows Roman and Cece.
Cece is a Veterinarian who gets to move and in hopes start fresh when she has Roman her neighbor who is too getting a second chance in going to the majors.
The banter between these two will defiantly having you laughing.
Just know Rome defiantly falls first and falls hard.
There is so much I want to say but I defiantly don't like to give spoilers such a great book to take a chance on!

If you loved book one, you will love book two just as much if not more. Cecilia is the owner of Wags Veterinarian Clinic animals are her life and so are the family and friends she has made. Roman is getting a second chance at Baseball, something he has always loved. Being able to be on the team that the Steels own, let's just say we get a piece of them as well. When Roman and Cecilia meet she has disdain towards him, but he's not about to let anything stop him from getting to know her. These two have the spark and chemistry, but so much more. As the story progresses and we see different sides of these two we all see how much love they have to give. Can she handle his career where he is gone more than home? First of all, I freaking love Baseball which is my favorite sport and two this book nails everything you want in a story.

I volunteered to read and review an advanced readers copy of Stealing Second . I love this story . It's outstanding . It's intense and emotional, it's also funny and entertaining . Cecilia Shaw and Roman Hart meet at a concert she doesn't realize he's her sexy neighbor but he recognizes her . Rome has to work hard to charm his way through Cece's wall she's built to protect herself . The attraction is there and their chemistry is smoking . Cece has a dark dangerous past and unfortunately it's not staying in the past . Rome with help from friends step in to stop the threat . This story is amazing . I love characters from previous stories being part of this . I highly recommend taking the time to read .

I just LOVE all that MJ fields writes! The stories are so addicting and captivating! You just have to know what happens, even if I’m fighting my sleep. She knows how to hook us and gives us amazing storylines! Rome and Cece meet at a concert and turn out to be new neighbors. The way Rome watches her is very, very swoony (stalkerish🤭). They meet by chance and their story was amazing! He’s very understanding and knows how to take care of her, but her past comes in and jeopardizes everything. So this one has quite a few of the ‘Steel Crew’ in it, which is always nice to read about. If you haven’t read any of her Steel series, it’s ok. This is book 2 in her Rounding The Bases Series. Be sure to pick this one up! Go Jersey Jags!

This is such an amazing emotional read.
Cece is living her dream with her veterinarian practice and her new home and a neighbour that she can dream about but with her past will keep at a distance.
Rome us getting his second chance at playing baseball professionally and he's not going to blow it but when he sees his sexy neighbour at a concert he saves her from being crushed and gets a much needed kiss.
They soon get close and I love their witty banter and how he will do anything for her so when her past comes for her he will try to keep her safe.
Loved the rest of the characters and can't wait to read more about them. So much love and plenty of emotion but also so much drama.
Perfect ending.
