Promise Me This: a friends to lovers, slow burn romance (Wilder Family) Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 4,988 ratings

Imagine this: an author with a raging case of writer’s block finds an unexpected source of inspiration in her grumpy, gorgeous new roommate. Sounds amazing, right? Except that new roommate is my childhood best friend. And Ian Wilder has been off-limits since I was five.

It’s been over a decade since I’ve seen him, but when I return to my hometown after years away, Ian’s exactly the man I remembered. The same guy who gave me his coat on a playground when we were kids and promised he’d take care of me forever. I need a quiet place to work with this deadline looming. I need a place where my daughter can unwind. Enter Ian with an offer I can’t refuse: his spare bedroom.

It’s an easy yes. Except now the problem is I can’t stop thinking about him, and these thoughts? They’re wandering out of the friend zone. I keep imagining very creative ways to rip off his clothes. And Ian starts giving me looks of his own, the kind that make my heart race.

One night, we cross a line we can’t uncross. The lines have blurred, and our friendship is hanging by a thread.

Imagine this: a woman falling for her best friend. And she has no idea if he feels the same.

Oh the slow burn goodness! Loved Harlow and Ian!
The Wilder Family owns my heart! There is something about a book with big family dynamics that just gets me every time and the Wilders had me laughing and crying again! I always feel like I am actually part of the family and living the story and boy do I love the Wilder family! Promise Me This was a beautiful slow burn romance between two childhood friends who hadn’t seen each other in over 17 years but that affection and understanding of each other never wavered in their time apart. Their bantering and bickering had me laughing and Ian’s unwavering support and love for Harlow had me swooning. I fall hard for the grump with a soft spot for his woman and Ian had a heart of gold!“She’d love me through my flaws, through my fears, through the highs and lows and the good and bad, just like I’d love her through the same.”I adored the friendship between Harlow and Ian, you could feel their genuine affection for each other. And Ian’s immediate camaraderie with her little daughter Sage was perfection. Her sarcasm was everything I needed for laugh while reading! Add in the Wilder family sibling dynamic that is just so dang funny, I couldn’t help but smile over their bickering and meddling ways. Overall, I absolutely loved Promise Me This and can’t wait to see what’s in store for the rest of the Wilder family siblings!“There was something about realizing you’d found your person, that forever started the moment you met. I wanted all these forever moments, wanted to make them count and live a life that made the most of even the most insignificant day.”

This was the very best kind of friends to lovers, slow burn. Ian and Harlow were soulmates in the most platonic way, but also completely codependent to each other. They met on the playground when they were 5 years old and were truly best friends, never thinking about each other in any other capacity. Unfortunately they also each would have set their own dreams aside to help each other, so they decided to have a falling out instead of deal with their big feelings.

Harlow became a best selling thriller author and a mother while living in New York. While Ian was a woodworker, and co-owner of Wilder homes, who just returned to their hometown after a decade in London perfecting his craft.

After Harlow has trouble with her writing skills, and her daughter asks to be closer to family, she also returns home to Oregon and reconnects with Ian, where the three become roommates. That’s when everything starts coming together. It’s a slow progression back into friendship and a huge leap into love.

Ian is still reeling with the death of his father and Harlow doesn’t know how to deal with the “Thoughts and Feelings” she is now thinking about her best friend.

It’s the very best kind of book, heart wrenching, sweet, spicy and will keep you up way past your bedtime. The writing is so incredible, it will transport you in to the Wilderness world and you won’t ever want to leave!

Promise Me This is an interconnected standalone and can be read by itself, but I would at least read Head Over Heels (Cameron and Ivy) because they are mentioned a lot in this book. Happy reading.

Ian & Harlow's story is definitely a slow burn. They have a lot of emotions to work through before they're ready to admit that being each other's person equals the romantic kind of love.

Ian keeps his emotions so bottled up for most of their story, he can't even let them out when he's alone. In an interesting dichotomy, he's also very free with his affection for Harlow & Sage. He's able to let his protective side free very early and far more easily than he'd ever imagine with Sage, & it's fantastic!

I love the friendship and history between Ian & Harlow, the support they give each other. My only hangup with their story is that they're both in their heads a little too much. They shine when their on-page together, though!

I love the family dynamics & care there.

And I very much enjoyed their epiphany moments, as well as the direction they go right away after they pull their heads out! 😄

Excellent read, & Ian's heart & friendship with Sage is a fun & happy heart-melty bonus!

As a lover of Karla Sorensen’s writing, I knew, going in, that this book would enthrall me. It had all the goodness, the warmth, the humour, the banter, and the sass that I expected. And even more so, it had depth.

The Wilders are a messy bunch, but goodness do they love hard. (And tease relentlessly too.) And Ian Wilder, with his introverted caution, is a man who deeply needed to find his place. He’d found his person thirty years before, but until Harlow Keaton’s re-entry into his life, he’d led such a solitary existence. It was impossible not to root for this loyal, steadfast, loving man. And of course, he’s deliciously handsome.

As expected, Harlow was another one of Sorensen’s fiercely strong and loveable heroines. Her courage and fearless love, especially toward her incredible, equally spirited daughter, was both admirable and beautiful. She also had wounds to struggle through, which no doubt will resonate with many readers. She captivated Ian, and eventually, resistance was futile. And breathtaking.

This journey picks up closely after Tim Wilder’s harrowing passing, and in my humble opinion, viewing this time through the lens of Ian’s grief was the perfect choice. He deeply mourned his father, and that was captured so perfectly by this skilled author. So yes, there will be tears. Be warned.

But this story was exactly the heartwarming, witty, and memorable book I’d anticipated. It has all the feels and will leave you wanting more. My only complaint? It had to end.

I love the Wilder family series and this book was no exception. I sincerely love how the author develops characters that you can’t help but fall in love with and root for. Deeply poignant and powerful, her books are both beautiful love stories set against the backdrop of an amazing family that you just wish you could be a part of. Whenever I start one of her books, I always make sure I do it when I’ve got the day to read because I know that I won’t be able to put it down before it’s finished.

I usually dislike friends to lover trope but this book is really great. The heroin is a writer and it is really one.of the interesting part of the story,.since we can follow how her creativity works. ( And it s not easy). Ian and Harlow deserves their happiness. The end is amazing. And the additional epilogue also. I can't wait for Poppy and jax story....

I love this family! We met Ian in previous books and I can honestly say I couldn't warm to him but we see a different side to him completely in this book. Ian is still struggling with the death of his father which happened in the previous book and is his usual grumpy self with his family.

Harlow, his best friend from when they were children comes back into his life, with a 10 year old daughter. He offers them a place to stay as he has a large house and they have a fantastic relationship and I must admit I couldn't put the book down as I wanted to see how it would develop and change.

I love all the family "banter" and I often find myself chuckling to myself in most of Karla's books, but I also found myself in floods of tears at one point in the book when Ian is questioning himself on how he is feeling but don't want to say anymore as I don't want to spoil it.

Karla, thank you again for a fantastic book - you are becoming one of my go to authors.........Next up is Poppy - just have to wait a few months for this one...........

I'm absolutely in love with this book! This series is once again amazing and I loved each and every one of these books. This one though, well, it feels extra special to me. The characters were multi-layered and authentic and the story itself was simply great. Ian was perfect and the chemistry with Harlow - wow. Or maybe it was Sage who made me feel in love with them. Or Harlow. Or... the whole of it. This book is a keeper and I already know that I'll read it again and again.

Friends to lovers and the fact that she is a writer was a great premise to this story! There was just something about this story that pulled at the heart strings. The chemistry between Ian and Harlow was just perfect. They were there for each other the minute they were reunited after years of being separated. Both were drawn home because they were missing something - a sense of family in the mist of feeling stuck. Who would have thought that returning home would provide answers to the ultimate question- Could love be the missing piece to both Ian and Harlow's happiness?
    Totally recommend!
