Here are the top job and market websites as identified in the 26th Annual 101 Best Websites from the May/June 2024 issue of Writer's Digest.
A * means this is the website’s first appearance on the WD list. All listings within each category are alphabetically arranged.
1. Funds for Writers
One of the few websites to remain on this list for more than two decades, C. Hope Clark’s Funds for Writers is a don’t-miss resource for writers who want to be paid for their work. This site is one of the most comprehensive collections of markets, grants, contests—all of which pay writers. Sign up for the newsletter to have new listings delivered to your inbox weekly.
2. Sonia Wieser's Opportunities of the Week Newsletter
For freelancers looking for new opportunities, this weekly newsletter is one of the best! Sonia Weiser—herself a professional freelancer—realized that she has a knack for finding calls for freelancers, and in 2018, she decided that instead of sharing what she found on social media, she would create this newsletter. The suggested rate is $5, but freelancers in need can reach out and get a sponsored spot.
3. The Writer's Job Newsletter
Keep your writing momentum and your income steam going with from The Writer’s Job, a free weekly newsletter connecting writers with writing jobs fit to their needs and expertise. The jobs are paid, fully remote, and are sent to your inbox every Sunday. For $1/week, you can get a second newsletter of opportunities each Wednesday.
4. Who Pays Writers?
Who Pays Writers? is a fully anonymous crowd-sourced database run by the Freelance Solidarity Project. Founded in 2012, this resource contains “information about compensation, the format of articles published (print or digital), copyrights purchased by the publication, and whether or not the publication issues contracts to its writers.”
