If their symptoms qualify, the system (algorithm) directs them to a local pharmacy for treatment instead of a GP surgery. One simple way to increase referrals and uptake and ensure patients use pharmacy services effectively is by signposting them to NHS 111 Online or for them to use the NHS 111 symptom checker inside the NHS App. These platforms assess symptoms and generate referrals only for conditions pharmacists can treat under the Pharmacy First scheme, essentially providing a digital triage service. Community Pharmacy Norfolk & Suffolk is the local voice for community pharmacies.
About us
Community Pharmacy Norfolk & Suffolk (also known as your Local Pharmaceutical Committee or LPC) is one of a number of LPC’s which operate in East Anglia, as the local voice for community pharmacies. Across Norfolk & Suffolk we work with community pharmacies which are both independently owned or part of larger community pharmacy chains. The aim of Community Pharmacy Norfolk & Suffolk is to represent community pharmacies, working in collaboration with others, to improve the health and well-being of the people across both counties. Community pharmacies are working with other health care professionals to become an effective integrated part of primary health and social care to deliver the best outcomes for their patients. There are significant opportunities for community pharmacies to do more to support their local communities. It is our role as the local representative body to be the voice and support for community pharmacies so they can continue to develop and deliver a wide range of services that meet the needs of local people. The work of Community Pharmacy Norfolk & Suffolk is not for profit, with our funding coming directly via a small levy on each pharmacy Contractor. We are not primarily a patient-facing organisation, and so unfortunately cannot routinely respond to queries from members of the public. Please do though follow us on social media where useful community pharmacy messages will be broadcast.

Huge gratitude from me and the team on the professional and efficient manner in which our pharmacy teams have adapted to the new Pharmacy First service. Year 2 presents lots of opportunities and our team will continue to work with our system partners to ensure that system benefits are recognised and the service is utilised to the maximum capacity available. 📢 One Year of Pharmacy First in Norfolk and Waveney! 🎉 One year on, Pharmacy First continues to transform community care, making healthcare more accessible and empowering pharmacy teams to play a greater role in patient support. This initiative has been a huge step forward in improving access to care, making steady progress in reducing pressures on GP surgeries, enhancing digital transformation, and strengthening community-based healthcare. More than just a service—it’s a true partnership between healthcare professionals, working together to deliver better patient outcomes. A heartfelt thank you to our incredible community pharmacy teams, GP practices, and healthcare colleagues who have embraced this initiative with dedication and innovation.
