As the rookie catcher of the Daytona Fury, I have a lot to prove. Not only do I need to be perfect on the field, but I’m doing it all while fulfilling a promise to the woman who raised me. Graduating college was never as important to me as it was to my grandma, but I gave her my word that I’d finish, even though my future in the majors was sealed. When I find out I need one more class—one I know nothing about—I decide to hire a tutor to help me through it. But as soon as we get into our lessons, I realize I want her to teach me much more than the curriculum suggests.
LARK
Starting over isn’t easy, especially when your ex-husband and his family are set on making it impossible. When I find myself without a job because they don’t want me switching to a “less respectable career”, I’m stuck paying for my own tuition to make my dreams come true. So when a side gig tutoring the city’s hottest professional baseball player in his Human Sexuality class lands in my lap, I take it, not expecting to feel all sorts of conflicting emotions once I get to know him. Ace Mathers may be ten years younger than me, but he’s determined to show me how to live.
Candice! You STRAIGHT DELIVERED with this one. You just gave me a full Thanksgiving dinner in the form of a 5 star banger and I gobbled that shit up. And guess what I left no crumbs. [No lies are detected with this statement.] But in all seriousness, I loved everything about this book. I loved how the plot line was so vastly different than anything that I have ever read in a sports romance book and that is truly what sets Candice apart from the rest!
Let's talk about the plot... it's amazing. It will keep you wanting more. I literally had to have someone take my kindle out of my hands to stop reading this one. So why did I love it so much? Ace and Lark's relationship. Period. These two are the most emotionally available couple with the MOST OPEN and HONEST COMMUNICATION I have ever read in my life. And why is this? Ace is a catch for the Daytona Fury but also trying to graduate college and in order to graduate he needs to pass a human sexuality class but is in search for a tutor because he is inexperienced in that area of life. In comes Lark, who is 10 years older than him, divorced with a lot of life and sexual experiences and someone who is willing to allow him the hands of experience he craves 👀
All I am going to say is Ace sure is a A+ student. He will do anything and everything to excel in the subject matter. And Lark is a very hard working teacher that even allows hands on extra credit to help Ace really understand the subject at hand. The way that these two openly discussed hard sexual topics with one another and then have the vulnerability to act on those said topics was PERFECTIONS. The kinks that were explored and the role playing that was performed in this book definitely received an A+ from this reader. Holy hell 🫠🥵
At the end of the day, Lark and Ace were just perfect! I loved their story, their interchanging dynamics and growth. Just when I think Candice can’t deliver me another 5 star banger that will top the last one, C.L. Rose tells me to hold my beer because she's about to blow my mind with another one! And Candice, keep them coming so I can continue to devour them!
You should most definitely read this book if you like: - Pro Baseball Romance - Inexperienced MMC - Divorced FMC who is starting over - Age Gap (She's OLDER!) - Tutor x Student - Forced Proximity - Found Family
* I would like to say a HUGE THANK YOU to C.L. Rose to continue to allow me to read her masterpieces as ARCs in exchange for my honest thoughts, opinions and review. I will forever be grateful for this opportunity.
Y’all don’t come for me with my spice rating on this one. I was conflicted 😂
Okay let’s talk about this book. Ace Mathers is my dream book boyfriend. Literally everything I could ever want in a man… this man has it.
Golden Retriever ✔️ Baseball Butt ✔️ A Heart of Gold ✔️ A filthy as sin mouth ✔️
He is perfect. His and Lark’s story was perfect. And when I say the spice was immaculate. I do absolutely mean it was some of the next spice I have ever read. Like I was fanning myself and overheating and just sitting there like 🥵🥵🥵.
But this story is so good because even though it’s super spicy. It’s so much more than just the spice. It had depth and it has heart, and the things Ace and Lark discovered about themselves and each other while falling in love made me believe in soulmates.
Ace has a damaged past and some baggage for being so young and while Lark is older, she just got stuck in a marriage that pretty much stole her shine. Well, our rookie bb catcher, well he gave it right back to her. I love them with my whole being and they will forever live in my head rent free!
✨ Baseball Romance ✨ Inexperienced MMC ✨ Divorced and starting over FMC ✨ Age Gap ✨ Student x tutor ✨ Role Play
“Respectfully,” I say, putting her on speakerphone and pulling up my Notes app, “I’m fucking desperate right now. This girl could be a serial killer or one of those people who puts mayo in their coffee, and I’d still ask her.”
“Dear God, it’s me, Ace. If you get me out of this lesson without popping a chub from the way she says the word tighter, I promise I’ll never swear again. I’ll brake for squirrels. I’ll even send a Christmas card to my seventh-grade archnemesis, Riley Fletcher, who told the whole school that I peed myself after spilling a cup of yellow Gatorade on my white baseball pants.”
“Kissing Ace Mathers is a religious experience—one that has me nearly abandoning every rule I’ve ever made for myself and dropping to my knees to worship him.”
“I’ve never had a partner that’s made me feel as sexy as I do with you. I feel like I don’t have to hide the parts of myself that aren’t perfect.” I loosen my hold on her, and she lifts her head, looking up at me. “Why don’t you tell me what parts of yourself you think aren’t perfect, and I’ll worship them until you realize how wrong you are?” I shake my head in disbelief. “You’re the girl of my dreams, Lark Dawson. Every f**king inch of you.”
“You’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me,” he whispers in my ear, making tears prick at the backs of my eyes. “Thank you.”
“Ace Mathers was made to be mine. And although I attempted to fight it for far too long, I know now that I am undeniably and unwaveringly his.”
“I’ve never been this happy in my entire life. Waking up next to her is a feeling that, even though I know I have so many amazing days ahead of me, can’t be topped. I’ll never tire of watching her pouty lips part as she snores softly, lost in what I hope are dreams of the future we’re going to build. The house with the big yard. Vacations in the mountains. Christmases in our home with as many babies as she wants to give me. I crave it all so badly that it causes a physical ache in my chest just thinking about it. “That’s right, baby. You and me, no matter what.”
“If I’ve learned anything in my life, it’s that you shouldn’t wait to tell someone what they mean to you. You should do it as often and as loudly as possible because you never know what tomorrow holds. I’ve loved you for a while now, and I wasted precious time that we’ll never be able to get back because I thought it was too soon. I was afraid you wouldn’t feel the same. If you’re not there yet, that’s okay. I’ll happily wait forever to hear you say it back if that’s how long it takes. I just couldn’t go another second without telling you that I’m in love with you.”
Tropes: Baseball Romance Reverse Age Gap Tutor x Student Slow Burn
OKAY LISTEN TO ME CAREFULLY.. I was positive, 100% sure that no other man could possibly top Riggs Valentine for me, I mean the man was essentially perfect. So hot. Such primal k*nk. So much yum. And then.. along came Ace. ACE!! The man who grew up reading romance novels, is basically virginal, and has the FILTHIEST MOUTH I THINK IVE EVER READ. I mean, this man LITERALLY talks his woman to orga*m. IM NOT EVEN KIDDING. HE DOES. 🤯 What. The. HECK. Is goin on. Someone explain this to me because I’m not understanding how one character could have literally every quality I love in an MC rolled into one SWEET (😉) package.
Ace needs to pass this Human Sexuality course to graduate, so he needs a tutor. Duh. He’s a pro baseball player and he doesn’t have time to sit in a classroom. It just so happens our bbg Lark needs a job atm and can help him out. THANK GOD 😌
These two started off as strangers, became friends, communicated A LOT about their wants, needs, and just basically, naturally fell for one another, despite their age gap and Lark being newly divorced (separated for over a year).
These two take SHMINKS to another LEVEL. Nothing is off limits, and they do it all. Like all of it. A lot. We’re talking her taking control 😏, role play, him taking control, degradation, praise, ALL OF IT. This book has EVERYTHING.
Anyways, you get the point. Just pick it up. I can’t say anything else because I could go on forever. Just read these damn books. You won’t regret it. In the words of Riggs Valentine, Gone. Dead. Good-f**king-bye. 🩵
It has been really difficult for me to put into words what this book made me feel and how absolutely phenomenal it was in every way. I’ll leave you with this…. I reread it for a second time one week after I read it for the first time. If that doesn’t mean anything to you I can’t help you.
Recently divorced Lark is now having to find a new job as her former mother in law was her boss as well at the college she attends to become a shmex therapist. Ace Mathers is the rookie pitcher for the Daytona Fury and needs one more class in order to fulfill his duty to his late grandmother and be the first in the family to graduate…a human shmexuality class. Realizing that this is going be a much harder undertaking than he had thought during the season he realizes he’ll need to hire a tutor….Lark 🤝 Ace
While the relationship lines between teacher/ tutor and student become more and more blurred as time goes on between these two both Ace and Lark realize that there is something between them that is completely undeniable. Not just attraction or infatuation, but a real true connection. They see each other for who they really are and accept one another as such. There isn’t any games (well other than twister), theres just two people who deserve love more than anything and finally find it.
Ace and Lark completely took my breath away in every single possible situation. From Lark’s bravery to Ace’s vulnerability. The relationship they developed was so pure and so special and I could not get enough of them or their connection. Their communication was laugh out loud funny, their tension was so thick I couldn’t even cut it with a knife if I tried. These two made me giggle, laugh, cry, yell, pant, drool. I felt ALL OF THE THINGS. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️♾️
I would give this book all the stars if I could. I am still in awe of this story and these characters and just how magical this entire journey was. Roman Empire status unlocked 🔓 Thank you so much to Candice for letting me be part of Ace and Lark’s journey. It is a memory I will cherish forever 🖤
This book brought it all! There was connection, growth, chemistry and plenty of spice!
Ace is definitely giving the Blizzard and Fury men a run for their money. He was sweet, caring, attentive, cheeky but also had the filthiest mouth and wasn’t afraid to learn. He definitely suprised me in the best way possible!
Lark was such a strong character. I loved seeing her gain confidence in herself and vocalize what she wanted.
Together, Ace and Lark were perfection! They were able to communicate, have fun, be vulnerable, support each other and finally, be themselves. Their growth as individuals and together was a beautiful part of this story. The chemistry and scenes they created together were scorching hot! Chapter 26 is all I’ll say! (Iykyk)
I loved seeing Riggs, Monroe and Friggle throughout the book. The way Candice crafts these universes and gives us glimpses of what comes next is truly a gift! I cannot wait to see where she goes from here!
100/10 recommend!
I would like to thank C.L. Rose for the opportunity to read and review Scoring Position.
ACE + LARK 4EVA! These two 🥰🥰🥰🤭🤭🤭🤭 I loved them so much, they were absolute perfection! Scoring Position follows Ace, a rookie catcher on the Daytona Fury baseball team and Lark who is a budding sex therapist, and Ace’s new private tutor.
Yes; this book is spicy. Like Candice WENT THERE. She did and we thank her profusely for it. But it is SO much more than the spice. It is the banter, the found family, the cameos from previous books, it’s the relationship and character GROWTH. This book has it all, and Candice did such a great job of bringing that all together with depth, swoon and heart.
Ace and Lark are perfect for each other and came into each other’s lives at the time they each needed it most. Their relationship was one of my favourites I’ve read recently. The HONEST and OPEN communication was incredible; it was support, no judgment and two souls coming together. It was everything. I loved the self discovery aspects, the support they gave each other and never dulling the other’s shine.
Add to your tbr if you like: - baseball romance - Rookie catcher x sex therapy student - Reverse age gap (M21 / F31) - She’s his private tutor - Forced proximity
I’m absolutely obsessed with this book. I devoured it in one sitting. Everything from the plot to the spice to the banter was absolute perfection.
Lark is a 31 yr old , newly divorced woman pursuing her degree to become a sex therapist. I adored her so much. Her insecurities and struggles felt so raw and relatable, especially as they touch on the experiences many women face as they get older. It was a really nice change to get an older FMC that a lot of woman can relate to.
Ace. This MANNNN. I don’t even have the words to fully express how much I adored him. He’s in his rookie year as the catcher for the Daytona Fury and an absolute sweetheart. Raised by his grandmother, who worked hard to help him achieve his baseball dreams, Ace promised her he’d finish college. When he finds out he’s short a few credits, he signs up for the Human Sexuality course that’s left 🤣
&& who better than to tutor him?? Our girl Lark. 👏
(He’s also extremely inexperienced in the sex department, so when Lark helps him out, omgggg🥵🥵🥵)
These two had me giggling and smiling from the moment they met. Their dynamic was so much fun, but it also had incredible depth as they opened up to one another about their personal experiences. They became each other’s safe space, and it was such a beautiful experience to watch their relationship grow.
Don’t even get me going on the spice in this book. C.L Rose writes the kind of deliciously dirty spice that I LIVE for. All I’ll say is… CHAPTER 26. You’re welcome. 🙌
Thank you so much C.L. Rose for the ARC of this book! 🤍
Alright, I’ve never read a C.L. Rose book that I didn’t love and this one is no exception. This series just keeps getting better and better and I am so obsessed with Ace & Lark. I wasn’t sure how I would feel about a inexperienced MMC but holy goodness, this was so hot and I ate this book up!
Ace & Lark truly come into each other’s lives at the perfect time and they are exactly what the other one needs. Lark is so patient with Ace and they are so comfortable and open with one another, I love it so much.
Lark tutors Ace so that he can graduate college and make his grandma proud— a promise that he made to her before she passed away. At the same time— Ace helps to teach Lark how to be her true self again and what he’s like to be truly loved and cherished.
The level of trust that the couple has for one another makes the spice in this book next level. AND chapter 26 (IYKYK) yup… that will live rent free in my mind for a LONG time. 🥵
Read if you enjoy: Age gap (she’s older) Tutor x student Inexperienced MMC Divorced FMC (starting over) Role play
Thank you so much CL Rose and Wordsmith for the opportunity to read this as an ARC for my honest opinion and review!
More 4 1/2 🌟 If you adore a sports romance with a lot of spice then Scoring Position is for you. It’s a reverse age gap, tutor/student baseball romance featuring Lark and Ace. Lark recently divorced becomes Ace’s tutor and let’s just say Ace has one dirty mouth. 🤭 I adored their connection, growth and just the way they supported each other. This was such an enjoyable read and if you are after a wholesome romance then this one might not be for you. I received a complementary copy from the author.

Just when I think C.L Rose can’t get any better she does! This book is so good that it has put me in a reading slump! The way Ace and Lark complimented each other despite being at different stages of their lives was perfection. The banter, the sweet nothings shared, the dirty talk… it’s all perfection!
The level of spice in this book, especially chapter 26… 🥵 and the role play 🥵🥵 this is a must read and trust me when I say you will love them!
Kinda mad that Candice went and wrote a man better than Tanner Lake.
Ace Mathers is a certified dreamboat. The whole damn package. This man has shaken me to my core. He's young, but boy is he a man. He had something traumatising happen in his teens, but he didn't let that stunt his development. In fact he probably went above and beyond what anyone his age would. His emotional intelligence is so profound and he is not afraid of being honest or fighting for what he wants.
Lark isn't gonna sit back and let Ace take all of the credit though. My experience of reading reverse age gaps is few and far between, but I know that this one is going to be a standout for a lot of women in the space. Yes she's been put through the mill by her ex-husband and his gross mother, but she's coming out stronger than ever. The way she takes hold of the conflict in this book and gets the job done to protect Ace? Be still my beating heart.
Ace and Lark are going to stick with me for a long time. They are so special. Their relationship was beautiful. The coming together of soulmates. Communication was their speciality; they got so raw and honest, and totally relatable with each other.
Not only was the spice DE-LIV-ERED (HELLO CHAPTER 26) but Candice followed through with her signature hilarious banter, giant found family/friendship group dynamic, and some epic cameos from her previous work. I'll be the first to admit that I wasn't totally sold on the Fury world when I read Wild Pitch, but redemption was served by Scoring Position and I am very much looking forward to what follows in Book 3. The breadcrumbs... *drool*
Thanks so much to Candice for the ARC in exchange for my honest review and opinion.
This book absolutely blew me away! This reverse age gap baseball tutor/student romance was fantastic. Ace is top tier book boyfriend material with his sweetness and filthy mouth! I absolutely LOVED that his nickname for Lark is sweets. My husband calls me that so I instantly felt a connection.
Lark is 20 years older than Ace. She is trying to navigate a tough situation with her ex husband and ex mother in law. When Ace needs a tutor a friend of Larks recommends her to him.
It is instant attraction. Lark thinks she is too old and boring for the hot young up an coming baseball star. Through helping him complete his class assignments they become friends which morphs into more. They can no longer deny their attraction and desire for each other.
Ace reads smutty books and definitely uses that to his advantage. When the slice hits, it is phenomenal! 🥵 🥵 It’s currently 20° outside but it’s damn near 100° in my house after reading this book! Whew!
Rating: ♾️/5 🌟 Spice: 4/5 🌶️ Characters: Ace and Lark
Wow. I'm completely obsessed with Ace and these two together. That 70% mark...yeah. This is my favorite CL Rose book yet!
Ace is short of credits and needs a tutor for his new course. He's hoping he can find one that works with his schedule since he's a professional baseball player and travels a lot. Lark's ex mother-in-law is giving her a hard time about changing her last name (since she's using her married name). Because of that, Lark ends up out of a job. Ace is giving Lark's information because she took the same course before. He contacts her and offers her the "job" of being his tutor on the road and agrees to pay her everything up front. It's an amount that she really can't say no to. The course is a human sexuality class. Mix the material with the fact that they are both attracted to each other and well, one thing leads to another.
Ace is my favorite hero yet! He's the perfect golden retriever with the absolute filthiest mouth. My kryptonite. He's also younger than her and practically a virgin. I mean, this man was seriously me coded. The obsession I have with him is unhealthy. Lark is a strong, independent, and confident FMC. I loved how she stood up for herself against her ex-mother-in-law and how she supported Ace. And despite losing her job she doesn't just take it. I had a bit of a crush on her as well.
This is one of those books I'll return to over and over again. It was completely perfect to me!
SCORING POSITION - C.L. Rose 10,000 ovulation stars
I loved this. Truly. Ace and Lark had the healthiest, most communicative relationship, and I was so proud of them! I should have been taking notes. The sexuality research woven into the story was really interesting, too. Ace seemed so much wiser than his 21 years, and his backstory played a huge role in that. He was far from the stereotypical f-ckboy of his age, while Lark had spent her twenties in a mediocre marriage. The spice was so hot - their ability to be vulnerable and trusting with each other made every moment even hotter. The self-discovery for both of them was both adorable and insanely sexy. And who knew Ace had such a dirty mouth on him?! Holy sh-t. That beefy golden retriever of a man might be my new favorite in the CL Rose universe.
If it’s not obvious by now then let me clarify - I am completely obsessed with anything Candice writes. I’m pretty sure that at this point Candice could write a book about the life cycle of an earth worm and I’d still rate it 5 star and beg her for more.
I always feel like I learn something new when I read her books - and this one is no different, especially considering Lark is Ace’s Tutor for Human Sexuality. I Feel like I’m learning right along with him.
I already had a feeling I’d love Ace - from all the teasers I just felt like he was a bit of me. A total flirt, extremely cheeky and full of fun. But I also loved Lark too - it was a Why Choose I wasn’t expecting for myself if I’m honest, because I can’t choose who I love more 🤣
I love how well these two balance each other and how well they compliment each other. Together they face past trauma and insecurities and grow together. It’s such a beautiful love story that had me swooning so much.
As with the Boston Blizzard Series, Candice is creating a lovely little family within the Fury - we see Monroe and Riggs in this book and they are still as sassy as ever. We also get to meet a few other players from the Fury that I can’t wait to see more of but also FRIGGLE IS BACK and man do I love that Mascot.
As we all know, it wouldn’t be a C L Rose Book without some spice and Candice 100% delivers as always. All I’m going to say is CHAPTER 26 🥵
If your type of book boyfriend is an obsessed golden retriever with the FILTHIEST MOUTH then Ace is for you...... also if you like big, juicy, muscular catchers 🍑 😈
Anywayyyyyy Ace is a rookie catcher on the Daytona Fury and finishing his college degree. He hires Lark as his private tutor for his final course, that he absolutely HAS to pass. Oh and it's not just any class.... it's a Human Sexuality Class 😏 and even though Ace is "inexperienced" he's a very eager student 🤭
Normally reverse age gap isn't one of my favs but this workedddddddd. Ace had just the right combo of young puppy energy and filthy confident BDE. Lark was also great and I love how they sort of traded dynamics throughout the book. She could be in charge and seductive but also fell easily into a submissive role and let him lead. The spice and tension build was DE-LI-CIOUS. I'm a straight up HOE for degradation and 🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠 holy f did Ace deliver. (But on the flip side there may also be some pegging so the variety of spice is 🤌🤌)
If you haven't figured it out yet I'm obsessed with everything CL Rose writes and you NEED to give this series a try.
Read if you like: - Baseball Romance - Reverse Age Gap - Tutor + Student...for a Human Sexuality Class - Nearly virgin MMC - He reads spicy books - The most delicious degradation I've read in a long time.

I don't even know where to start. Miss C.L. Rose does it again. Another infinity star read for me! I cannot even put into words how much I loved this one. 🥹 This book lives rent free in my mind, and it will for a long, long time.
Even though Ace and Lark were at completely different stages in their lives, they complemented each other perfectly. ☺️ The banter and tension, the sweet treats and dirty talk, everything was amazing.
I love how persistent yet understanding Ace is towards Lark, knowing all that she's been through all while helping her though it. His support for her is unwavering and it brought me so much joy watching his crush for her turn into love.
Even though A is ten years younger than L, she saw him for the beautiful human he is and was there for him when he needed her the most.
And... the spice in this book... unmatched. I love every single 🌶️ scene Candice has written, but this book takes the cake! Chapter 26 🥵 will make you grab a fan and a cool drink of water.
I can't say enough about this read. The bottom line is: READ IT! You won't regret it and you will fall in love with Ace & Lark's love like I did. 🥰
C.L. ALWAYS writes the perfect book for me. I absolutely adored this book. Lark & Ace were everything together. Once I picked this book up I could not put it down. The chemistry and tension between these two all the time had my kindle burning up. When I tell you I’m in love with Ace please know I mean that with my whole chest. He is such a perfect angel baby with the DIRTIEST mouth. 🥵 I loved watching Lark find herself again and find the love that she is SO deserving of. The way these two love each other is EVERYTHING.
This book was absolutely adorable, but it definitely brings the heat! Ace, the catcher for the Daytona Fury, is also attending college to honor a promise he made to his grandmother. That promise leads him to Lark, who becomes his tutor for his final class. As they spend more time together, the chemistry between them intensifies, and the tension is impossible to ignore. I loved watching Ace and Lark navigate their relationship, openly communicating their needs and desires. If you're a fan of sports romances with sweet characters and sizzling spice, this is a must read!
“Thank you for reminding me who I am. I got lost for a while, but you found me and brought me back.”
“I’ll always find you, baby. In this life and all the others.” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 One of my first baseball books, loved it so much I’ll definitely be reading the next. Definitely should have read the first book first. Le t me just telly a the spice was spicing 🌶️🌶️🌶️/5
“Thank you for reminding me who I am. I got lost for a while, but you found me and brought me back.”
C.L. Rose never disappoints! Another book I devoured! Another top read for me! Another book that lives rent free in my mind!
Ace Mathers( catcher for the Daytona Fury )made a promise to his grandmother he would graduate college. Grandma passed away, and he was determined to keep that promise. Ace was having trouble in the one class he needed to graduate, so he was in need of a tutor who was willing to travel with him while he played baseball. Lark Dawson ,a new divorcee took on the job. Unbeknownst to her this hot younger man would make her feel things she never felt before. Lark teaches Ace a lot more than he could ever imagine.
Lark and Ace come together at the perfect time in their lives. Ace and Lark have a damaged past. They both just know how to help rebuild the other. Ace helps bring back Lark’s shine and how to have fun again. Lark shows Ace what it’s like to truly be loved. Candice never ceases to amaze me with the spice levels. Damn this book is hot. Chapter 26 y’all, will have you sweating. I throughly enjoyed this read. You will fall for this couple as much as I did.
Tropes: baseball, age gap (she’s older), tutor x student, inexperienced MMC, Divorce FMC, role play.
We are only one month in to 2025 and I can already say with absolute certainty that Ace Mathers will be one of my top book boyfriends this year ♥️ Y’all THIS MAN!!! I loved him instantly, then he just kept getting better and better! I definitely fell hard for Lark as well! As a divorcée myself I really connected with all of her thoughts and emotions post divorce! I wasn’t expecting to get in my feels so much while reading this one but damnnnn!!! SO FREAKING GOOD 🥹🥰👏🏼♥️
Whatever C.L. Rose put into this, I need more of it because, my god, this was one of the best books I’ve ever read! Lark and Ace had me going FERAL!! The connection these two share, the spice, the healing, literally everything was an A+. Kind of like Ace in Chapter 13 when he proves just what words can do. 🥵
Lark, as the FMC, easily stole my heart. She’s such a real and raw character that it didn’t even feel like she belonged in a book. She stands out so much, strong, independent, confident & while her life has just been turned upside down, she refuses to back down. And Ace? He’s right there supporting her in ways her ex-husband never did.
C.L. Rose has hands down given me a book that will forever live in my top reads. It even pushed Tanner and Grace to the #2 spot, which is SHOCKING because I’ve been very vocal about being ride or die for them. But I don’t think anything will ever beat the way I feel about Ace and Lark.
If I’m going to convince you to read any book, PLEASE let it be this one! It’s truly unlike anything I’ve ever read and worth every single second you spend with it. 💙💙💙
Thank you so much C.L. Rose for giving me the opportunity to alpha and beta read and be on this journey with you.
If you like books where smut is the entire plot, you’re gonna love it.
You could basically use it as a manual for the sex ed class, with how properly explained and executed that smut was, so there’s that.
There’s no angst, no tension, very little banter and the side characters are so irrelevant that the found family vibe is told rather than shown.
I couldn’t connect with those characters. It all fell flat, performative and the smut got boring real quick, since it was the whole plot itself.
Maybe if it was a short novella, it would work, but a whole book of them kindly asking if they could be a little bad tonight, was just not doing it for me.
Did I read a 300 page book in 6 hours without putting it down? Yes, yes I did. Ace is a literal dream book boyfriend. There is something about an inexperienced hero that will get me every time. Couple that with the golden retriever energy he brought, and he just became my new favorite C.L. Rose MMC.
Lark was also different than previous FMCs we’ve seen from C.L. Still a total badass, but in a more quiet way. She’s starting over after a divorce, finding herself again, and is nervous about what it means to be falling for the man she’s tutoring who’s also 10 years her junior. But once she owns it—she OWNS it.
As always, the spice was immaculate. I don’t know how C.L. always finds new ways to make me sweat but she does. Even though Lark was the experienced one in the relationship, kink exploration was completely new to her, and I loved the dynamic of how she and Ace learned and communicated together.
Oh, and the little hints dropped about book 3… yeah, I’m excited!
Oh, hello to the absolute sweetest MMC who ever lived and his perfect girl!
Ace and Lark are a whole freaking delight. Right from the start, their chemistry and attraction jumped off the page, and you just knew that these two would be a whole journey. They absolutely did not disappoint. I love how sweet Ace was, how eager he was to learn, and how he put Lark right up on a pedestal and kept her there, even when she wasn't feeling her best. And I love how strong Lark was, and how she remade her life with confidence, finding her voice where she lost it for awhile. The two of them together were wonderful, and I loved reading their story.
This woudn't be a C.L. Rose book without a big, sprawling found family, and it was so much fun seeing the rest of the Daytona Fury and what they're up to, especially our girl Monroe and Riggs in their couple era. This is such an amazing universe, and I can't wait to see where it goes next.
