Hannah Gray spends her days in vacationland, living in a small, quaint town on the coast of Maine. She is an avid reader of contemporary romance and is always in competition with herself to read more books every year.

During the day, she loves on her three perfect-to-her daughters and tries to be the best mom she can be. But once she tucks them in at night—okay, scratch that. Once they fall asleep next to her in her bed—because their bedrooms apparently have monsters in them—she dives into her own fantasy world, staying awake well into the late-night hours, typing away stories about her characters. As much as she loves being a wife and mom—and she certainly does love it—reading and writing are her outlet, giving her a place to travel far away while still physically being with her family.

She married her better half in 2013, and he’s been putting up with her craziness every day since. As her anchor, he’s her one constant in this insane, forever-changing world.

    Smith Sawyer is a total playboy who is trying to drown his past because he will never allow himself to be truly happy. Smith and Gemma were childhood sweethearts, despite what was written in the stars long ago, they are no longer together. Smith is a big shot NHL player who wants to keep a low profile on his good deeds, all while he is the "class clown" of his teammates. He uses humor to help numb his pain and his teammates have a love hate relationship with him for that.

    When Gemma shows up at Friendsgiving with Smith's sister, Saylor. Smith immediately sees through the lies she is telling. Saylor is leaving town soon, so Saylor proposes that Gemma move in with Smith. It's been years since they were together. Smith broke Gemma's heart so there should be no feelings there.. right?

    Gemma Jones is such an inspiring character. What an inspiration to women everywhere, seriously! Her story is incredibly moving. She has a recent past that she is running from. She needs to find herself and heal at the same time. Smith thought he was doing the right thing all those years ago, by setting her free. Getting to see them find their way back to each other and build a relationship that they were both are worthy of was incredible.
    Hannah did an amazing job writing such a strong FMC. Gemma is a total baddie 👑 who eventually finds her way back to herself. After being a shell of herself when she first shows up back in Smith's orbit she finds herself embracing her dominant traits and I was 👏here 👏for 👏 IT! So was Smith 😂. They have incredible chemistry and truly the definition of childhood sweethearts. They are the best of friends, truly made for each other. I loved watching them get their happy ending and the extended epilogues were perfection. Can't wait to see what is next with the Bay Shark's 🦈 universe!

    Another great book by Hannah Gray!

    This story was heartbreaking for 75% of the book. I cried and cried for Gemma!. Smith is the absolute sweetest man. I don’t think she honestly could have asked for a better human that loved her more so than himself.

    Smith was absolutely blind sided by Gemma’s dad. He left devastated when they were kids to give her a better chance at life because her dad demanded it. He lived with the guilt of what he did. And even when Gemma came back into his life he carried more guilt and blamed himself for her getting into this relationship that hurt her. I wish Hannah would have given us a little picture of what their lives were like in-between all of those years.

    Gemma was so broken and so numb. No matter what she did or who tried to help. Chapter after chapter it was sad, and heartbreaking, and frustrating.

    Smith and Gemma’s love and relationship is 1000% what carries this book! Even though she denied it and pushed him away so many times he never veered. I loved how the last few chapters jumped ahead. And the epilogue was good also. It was nice to see the group together and what life had become!

    There was decent amount of spice, maybe even a little “far fetched” kind of spice but it was there. Kolt and Paige are sprinkled into this book but not a huge amount. I was upset that it is never mentioned on what Richie was sentenced or if he was even convicted.

    Overall it was a good book and I would definitely recommend it.

    4.5⭐️ 2.5🌶️ This is Book 3 in the New England Bay Sharks hockey 🥅 series 🏒 . Hannah has become one of my go-to authors because of this series, and it keeps getting better. We get a snippet of Gemma & Smith in the end of book 2 Shoot Your Shot. Hannah has a way of incorporating tough subjects into her books, and this was a perfect example - she beautifully handled Gemma’s story. Hannah also can write some spice! That hotel scene? 🥵

    Gemma is on the run from her abusive ex-fiancé, and escapes to her BFF, Saylor, who also is Smith’s younger sister. They have a past, and even though Gemma and Smith haven’t seen each other in 6 years, Smith never got over Gemma. He will do whatever it takes to get another chance.

    I LOVED how Smith was determined to help Gemma feel safe, and to give her the space and time to heal. He buys all of her favorite things (he asked Saylor for a list) including her favorite coffee creamer, he puts a fan in her room because he remembers that she can’t sleep without one, he tells her there’s a good beach with sea glass close by because he knows collecting sea glass was one of her favorite things to do, and he doesn’t mind when his rescue dog, Storm, abandons him for Gemma. ❤️ Smith is so patient, and allows Gemma to take back what she lost - her control. He calls her his warrior - and she really is—Gemma is strong, resilient, and still has a capacity to forgive despite her struggles.
