WHAT STAFF ARE READING
Collection of essays
Meet Steve Dehner, the new adult services representative at North Plains Public Library, one of the 16 Washington County public library locations that are members of WCCLS.
What are you currently reading?
One Long River of Song by the late Brian Doyle.
Why did you choose this book?
He is a favorite of many of my friends, including avid readers and writers. My mom strongly recommended this collection of essays to me.
What do you think so far?
I love it! I read Testimonio first, and I was hooked. His style is poetic, and full of wonderful surprises. He is wise, down to earth, and finds beauty and insight wherever he looks. His observations of nature are amazing. Whether he is encountering an insect, watching birds, or describing his first awakening to the terrors of the ocean, in creation he finds joy, wonder, mystery, God and deep wisdom. And he seems to always circle back around to love.
Where is your favorite place to read?
When the sun is out, our covered front porch.
Where is your favorite place in the great outdoors?
I love to be near water. I favor a river or stream running through the mountain forest, a mountain lake and ocean beaches.
