Dear USET/USET SPF Family,
The Department of the Interior will be hosting a summit on Tribal environmental justice and climate adaptation on September 26 & 27, 2023 in Minneapolis, MN. USET member Tribal Nation representatives are invited to attend the Federal & Tribal Litigation Regional (Midwest, Great Plains, and Eastern Regions) Summit: Defending & Strengthening Tribal Homelands: Climate Adaptation, Resilience and Environmental Justice (agenda). The event will be held at the Twin Cities Regional Office of the Department of Interior’s Office of the Solicitor and include the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Office of Tribal Justice and Environment and Natural Resources Division, and other federal agencies to discuss Tribal treaty rights and climate adaptation. This meeting is the second in a series of meetings to discuss regionally significant environmental issues, Tribal treaty rights, and litigations where DOJ, federal agencies and Tribal governments currently work together. The increasing challenges of climate change and how they relate to these litigations will begin to be identified.
RSVP by providing the name of the representative, Tribal affiliation, government position or title, and email address via email to OTJ@usdoj.gov as soon as possible. If you have questions, please contact the Office of Tribal Justice at (202) 514-8812 or OTJ@usdoj.gov.
